video diaries. honda cg125 around south america
Hi. 4 weeks ago I arrived in Chile with the intention of buying a dirt bike to travel south america but came across the honda cg125 for sale for around $1000. so for anyone who is intending on flying to chile to buy a bike, dont rule this one out. its a bit slow but its solid and goes pretty much any direction i point it. ive made some video diaries for anyone who might be interested. so far i have done ptagonia and had no problems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9337CIcZ4M

How the 125 holding up, Jono? That was the same model I was looking at touring on next year. What was the buying process like?

Jono,
Hope you'll post up how you got the bike registered in your name, how long it took and what the procedure was to get all paperwork done. Can you cross any borders with the bike? Lots of questions on this here. Hope your bike keeps going! Ride Safe! Suerte! bier |

Hi. The bike was doing great and even made it over 5000m altitude. Punctures were the only problems. I have now, however, buried her in the desert until next time I return to south America in 3 or 4 years time. I still have another 2 months left, I've got a local guy building me a canoe and hopefully it will get me from puerto maldonado, peru to manaus, Brazil, around 4500km. Just have to hope the engine can hold up that long and the crocs don't get too hungry

I got all my information from this thread. I didn't wait for the padron, and crossed in to Argentina several times using just the inscription on the way down to tierra del fuego And have crossed all other borders with just the inscription Aswell. However, if you cross from Chile to peru or bolivia you will need the padron but you can cross to Argentina first, then bolivia with just the inscription. If you wait for a padron it's gonna be around a month |
