We - a young German couple - will start our ride RTW in June 2011!

Hello to everybody!

We are a couple - Bea 27 years old and Helle 29 years old - from Upper Bavaria in Germany.

We´ll start on our motorbike worldtour with our two Honda Transalps - year of construction 1991 and 1993 - in June 2011. :scooter:

We´ll drive trough eastern Europe (Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia) till Vladiwostok. From there we´ll ship to Thailand. There we´ll ride a round to Cambodia and Laos before we´ll drive southbound to Australia. There we eventually will do a little work & travel to fill up our vacation fund.
Then we´ll ship to Alaska to ride the famous Panamericana to Tierra del Fuego. Maybe, if we have enough money, we´ll visit some more areas in Canada and North America and the African continent, too, at our way home to Germany. But that´ll come up...

If you want to know more about us and about our journey, then visit our homepage www.TimetoRide.de

We hope to get more information about foreighn countries in this forum and - eventually - contact to lokal bikers which can give us tips to their contries. We would be very pleased to hear from you!

Greets from Upper Bavaria
Bea & Helle

PS: please excuse our bad German-English, but we hope to get better during our journey!

Hi, Your trip sounds like a fantastic adventure, i look forward to following your travels. Good Luck Andy

palace15 2 Feb 2011 17:28

:welcome: to the HUBB, I also will be following updates from your trip. All the best.

DrewRev 2 Feb 2011 17:35

Hey there, welcome to the hubb! Your trip sounds like it'll be a lot of fun, I myself am planning a trip in a similar direction leaving from the UK in May, through Eastern Europe, Middle East, Russia, then South somehow eventually ending up in Oz, also to work and build up travel money..
My plan is very loose at the moment, I'm currently working out the finer details, looks like I may be selling my bike in Russia, and maybe backpacking through China and South East Asia - as I can't afford to ship it!

It'd be cool if our path cross, maybe in Russia, it's hard to say at the moment, timings are all up in the air!

Hope to hear from you, maybe we can share information regarding routes and other trip related information!

Cheers, Andy

PS. Please excuse my atrocious English/German, I'm trying to work on it ;)

Grant Johnson 3 Feb 2011 06:28

Welcome to HU Bea and Helle - and no apologies needed for your English, it's very good!

Be sure to check out the Meetings page and try to get to some - it's a great way to meet travellers, as is the Communities section - a VERY important place for travellers to check out.

Also, to get your link on HU, please see the link request section.

Have a great trip, and keep us posted here!

The Planning phase - very exciting

:welcome: to the HUBB!

Wow a great trip in the making. I think the planning phase is the most exciting part of travelling as there are so many unknowns and it's easy to get bum-steered down the wrong path when you're a little green. Don't let that phase you, enjoy the planning and without a doubt you'll have a great time.

Ride safe and post lots of pics and when you get to Australia if you need any tips, let us know. :mchappy:

Cheers,

Pascal & Arja

Hi Bea and Helle,

Welcome here. I come from Bavaria myself, done my national service in Mittenwald.
The other day, I met a young couple, with two brand new looking BMW 850 at a parking lot here in the SW of WA, on their second day of their RWT here in Australia. Katja and Jens, boomer.de bike-travel - Der Blog unserer Motorrad-Weltreise - boomer.de bike-travel. Spend an evening together and went for a ride the next day, down to Augusta. Nice couple, from AA. Might pay to get in touch with them. In case you will come down under, call in.
If not, stay upright and healthy.

Good luck to you.

Cheers Helgo

Bea & Helle 3 Feb 2011 18:40

Hello to everybody!

At first, thank you all for the nice reception in the HUBB! :thumbup1:

In any case, we´ll post pics and travelogues here and on our homepage. We really hope, that we can tell you great and interesting stories from June when we start our tour! :mchappy:

@Andy:
Hey, we would be pleased to meet you somewhere on the way! We´ll start in Upper Bavaria at the first or second weekend in June and we had planed about 3 month till Vladiwostok. Our route takes us through the Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia. We shold stay in contact to arrange a meeting somewhere on the road! :thumbup1:

@Grant Johnson:
Thank you for your tips! Especially the Communities are very interesting! :thumbup1:

@Helgo:
You won´t believe it, "the world is a village"! We read about you and your trip with Kati & Jens on their Blog a few days ago! And now me met you here in the HUBB! It´s so crazy! :thumbup1:
If everything goes as planned, we´ll arrive in Darwin in December this year. Then we´ll drive once trough Australia and maybe do a little Work & Travel to refill our vacation fund. But we´ll visit WA definitely, so we would be pleased about a contact!

Hallo Ihr 2 - hi there the 2 of you!

Great plan! Too bad that you did not include Japan. doh

Would have been on your way to kangaroo country - well

Hello to everybody!

@Sara & Daniel:
Wow, thank you very much for your invitation! We will contact you, when we know, when we arrive in North America and then, maybe we can visit you in your home or on the street! We are looking forward to it!

@Knight of the Holy Graal:
Thank your for your good wishes!

@Thomas:
Thank you for your compliments regarding our HP! Your 2008er trip sounds great! But 11.000 miles (das sind über 17.000 km, Wahnsinn!) in 22 days sounds very hard! It's a pity that you start riding home not until 2012, otherwise we would certainly meet us on the road!

@Klaus:
Hello to a former Lower Franconia! :biggrin3: Hm... maybe we will visit Japan it depending on if we get a Container for our Motos from Vladiwostok to Bangkok. When not, we´ll take the ferry to Japan and get a Container in Tokyo - that´s at least our current plan!

Many greetings from Upper Bavaria!

Hello to everybody from very cold Upper Bavaria! :freezing:

At the moment, we create a preparations-video about all the things we had to do the last weeks: the many visits by our doc to get all the necessary vaccinations :helpsmilie: the latest preparations of our bikes :thumbup1: our mind and emotions regarding to our coming trip and what our friends and family think about our crazy idea...
The first part of the video - it´s about how we got our world tour-goodbye-memory-tattoo  by our good friend Michi, a tattoo artist - is online now!
You can find it here: http://www.timetoride.de/#58
Have fun watching the video!

How come you are skipping India? Its such an experience riding here. :-(

Bea & Helle 17 Apr 2011 09:40

Hello deadman23,
we had thought about riding the north or the south route quite at the beginning of our trip-planning. But if we choose the south route, we have to pass the Iran and Pakistan... and we are a bit unsure about the security situation in these countries...
Inter alia because of this, we had decided us for the northern route. And also we are curious about countries like Russia, Kazakhstan or Mongolia which we are very interested in because of the endless landscape and the sparse settlement!
Unfortunately we had to cancel Japan from our route because of this unimaginable nuclear accident. Now we are planning to get a shipping container from Vladiwostok to somewhere in south east Asia. We hope, that this plan will work out!
Many greetings from Upper Bavaria

wakold 18 Apr 2011 04:14

Hey Bea & Helle! Sounds like an awesome trip, I'm jealous!

If you ever need some tips/info about working in Australia as a traveler, let me know, I would be happy to help. I worked and lived in Australia for almost two years and I did a lot of the fruit picking thing, which can be quite good money if you know where and when to go!

Just on a quick note, the best fruits to pick are cherries and mandarins. Most of the other fruits are really not as good compared to those two, although the vines can be pleasant to do too. The cherry season starts around mid-November and ends mid-January, while the mandarin season runs from mid-March to late August if I'm correct. In both cases you can easily make 200$ a day or more if you work reasonably hard and if you land at the right place!

I'd be happy to share some of my contacts with you! Hope this helps.

Take care,

Sam

deadman23 23 Apr 2011 12:06

wakold, i might need your help with that. I'll be heading east from India next year in jan and hope to make it to Australia by march-april. I could do with those $200 a day. :-)

wakold 23 Apr 2011 18:04

Sure, I'll be happy to help! In April the winter is pointing its nose in Australia, so make sure to have some warm clothing! The nights do get really cold. If you're ever interested to pick mandarins, you'll have to head for Gayndah, in the state of Queensland. Let me know whenever you'll need more details.

Bea & Helle 30 Apr 2011 11:14

Hello wakold,

thank you for the great tips!

Yes, we are planning to work in Australia with a Work & Travel Visa, but we heard from others, that you can only earn very little money with this jobs... :confused1: so it´s great for us to hear, that this information isn´t correct in general! :thumbup1:

We are planning to arrive in Darwin in December 2011 if everything goes as planned and then we will see, where we will travelling at first...

If it´s o.k. for you, we would like to contact you in December to get some further informations from you?

Up until that many thanks for your help and your tips!

Greetings from spring-like Upper Bavaria

Hello Bea and Helle:

Unfortunately I have internet slower than my Ural today, so I can't see your website yet.

But any RTW is eexciting and you chose Transalps!! (I have a 93! :D)

I'll be interested to read about your adventures, exploits and experiences! And, if you come through Estonia, contact us throught the HUBB communities list for Tallinn as mentioned by Grant!!

Tchüss!

wakold 30 Apr 2011 18:42

Hi again Bea & Helle.

Well the truth is that indeed, most people doing the fruit picking business in Australia don't earn that much money. And there are 2 simple reasons for that: they go to the wrong places at the wrong time. As long as you land in a good farm and you pick the right fruit, I can assure you that you can make some good money (all is relative of course). But of course many factors are in play, such as your ability to work hard, and fast with your hands, and the season which is sometimes hit and miss. But recently the droughts have eased in Australia and as a result the crops are much better than a couple of years ago.

But, just to serve as an example, when I picked cherries in Cobram, last December 2008, I made anywhere from 200 to 375$ a day. Of course I am a very fast picker and at that time I had 4 seasons of experience behind me, but this is just to show you that if you are motivated and you can learn the trick, there is no reason why you wouldn't make some reasonable money. Even better than that, I was lucky to see one of the best cherry seasons Tasmania had seen back in December 2007, and during a short but amazing 15 days, I made anywhere from 350 to 500$ a day. But more reasonable expectations for any new picker would be a stable 150 to 250$ a day during a moderately good season.

The only problem is that the seasons are often short, ranging anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks. This is why many pickers like mandarins, because although the money is not as good (anywhere from 100 to 250$ a day of hard work), the work is very stable and spread over many months.

I see that you will be most likely arriving in Darwin in December. That's the wet season by the way, unless I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's the case :). It can be tricky to drive in the bush during those times, lots of crazy storms and torrential rains. In any case, my advice would be to drive eastward all the way to Cairns, and then head your way down to southern Queensland, where the citrus fruits grow. That'll give you around 3-4 months to cruise down this beautiful place of Australia, until you reach Gayndah in March. Unfortunately for you, however, this time of the year happens to be the jellyfish season in Northern Queensland (i.e. Cairns area), so I'm not sure if you'll have the chance to enjoy great snorkeling and diving at the Great Barrier Reef, but if you can you shouldn't miss this opportunity.

Once again, let me know if you need help anytime!

Take care, and have a nice trip.

Sam

Bea & Helle 10 May 2011 16:30

@Warthog
Thank you very much for your offer to contact you! It surely would be very interesting to visit Estonia, but unfortunately, Tallin is to far in the north for our current route... :(
But when we are back from our RTW trip, we need new aims where to drive with our motorbikes, then we will come and visit you! :)
@wakold
Thank you very much for your further informations! Your are really knowledgeable about Working in Australia! We would be pleased, if we can possibly contact you, if we have further questions when we are in Australia!

Many greetings (still) from Upper Bavaria! But not for long time, in about 5 weeks we´ll start our journey!!!

We need help to ship 2 motorbikes from Vladivostok to South East Asia!!

Hello to everybody!

We had started our world trip at the 18th of June and at the moment we are in Ulan Bataar / Mongolia.
So far, our trip is very amazing and we had a very good time, meeting very interesting people, seen amazing landscapes… we love it!

On our homepage www.timetoride.de and on our facebook-page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Time-t...15955945143396 you can find our latest travel reports and many pictures.

But now we have a real problem. We will try to ship our 2 motorbikes from Vladivostok to somewhere in South East Asia, Bangkok is our preferred goal. But we can´t find any informations about shipping bikes from Vladivostok to Bangkok. We will arrive in Vladivostok in about 2 – 3 weeks we think.

Maybe some of you have an advice for us or knows people who had shipped their bikes the same way or knows a shipping company or some lokals in Vladivostok?

We would be very pleased of any kind of help!
Thank you very much!

Bea & Helle

Bea & Helle 17 Oct 2011 07:24

Some bikers in South East Asia at the moment and the next 3 month?

Hello everybody!

At the moment we are in Bangkok and a few days ago the container with our bikes finally arrived from Vladivostok! :thumbup1:

In 2 days we´ll start our South East Asia tour. At first we´ll visit Cambodia. The beach, the famous Angkor Wat and the capital Phnom Penh. Then we´ll follow the Mekong River up to Laos, visiting several places there before we´ll enter the North of Thailand. :scooter:

Then we´ll go down, crossing Thailand´s south and after that, we´ll visit Malaysia and Indonesia, before we´ll ship our bikes from Timor Leste to the next big goal on our motorbike world trip: Australia.

We´ll spend the next 3 month in South East Asia, so, if some of youcoincidentally are in this area at the moment or in the next time, please contact us, if you want!

We would be happy to meet other travelers or locals! bier

Many greetings
Bea & Helle

PS: Recently we put our Mongolia travel report and a very nice video about our experiences in this amazing country online!

Enjoy it!

Hello Bea and Helle. I'm heading up to Alaska from the central US in Mid-June of 2012. Will travel up through Vancouver and eventually to the Arctic Ocean in Alaska. If you stay on schedule, we may meet up along the way. Keep in touch. Love your website.

Bea & Helle 19 Dec 2011 08:05

Hello!

@ nigel_tailyour:
Thank you for the flowers! :thumbup1: (this is a German saying, we are not sure, if you use it in English too, but we try it :confused1:)

@ GSARiderOne:
No, “unfortunately” we are absolutely not in time! :rolleyes3: Now we are in South East Asia for around 3 month and we are still in the North of Asia. First we planned about 3 month for whole South East Asia! :-)
And first we also planned to stay “only” for around 6 month in Australia but now we decided to stay there maybe for 1 year to travel and to work there to increase our travel fund a little! :-)
But we wish you a very nice travel next year and a lot of great experiences! :thumbup1:

And, maybe, we´ll meet us in some other place “on the road”! :-)

Many greetings
Bea & Helle

Bea & Helle 19 Apr 2012 03:15

After 10 month “On the Road” we finally finished the second stage on our motorcycle world trip! :D

The last months we spend travelling back and forth through trough Southeast Asia and we really enjoyed the time here! We enjoyed relaxed times on the beaches in Thailand, visited the famous temples from Angkor Wat in Cambodia, traveled through the very laid back Laos, enjoyed the smooth roads in Malaysia, spent two days in Singapore (unfortunately without the bikes, too expensive to go to Singapore with it… :() and had an absolutely adventurous time travelling trough Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
:thumbup1:

But now it´s time to say goodbye to Southeast Asia. After 8 days cleaning our bikes and our equipment with the tooth brush (!!) (thank´s to the Australian quarantine requirements) they are finally in the container!

Australia we are cooooommmmminnnngg!!! :scooter:

PS: all our pictures and reports about our trip you can find on our homepage and our Facebook-page!

duive01 19 Apr 2012 19:45

I was taking a look at your homepage but, maybe it's just me using Safari on an Apple, it didn't work very well. Many times I just get almost empty pages (just a little bit layout, no content). Too bad, I was really looking forward to your pictures.

Anyway, I really wish you all the best on the rest of your trip!

Bea & Helle 20 Apr 2012 02:21

@duive01:
That can be 2 things.
1. our HP is very "big" so if you have a slow internet connection it can take several minutes until the HP is completely loaded. During this time you only see a black screen.
2. our HP is based on "Flash" so you need a Flash-Player on your Apple to load our HP. Normally the Apples have no Flash-Player as a standard programm (like Windows has) but you can download a free Flash-Player in only a few minutes, then it should work!

marblewan 22 May 2012 07:42

Love your website! remember, always take lots of pictures, you may never be there again.
See you on the road,

Hey Guys!

Some of you asked us if we can keep you up to date from every now and then and so, here we are with our first report, currently from a cattle- and cotton farm west of Goondiwindi in the Southwestern Outback of Queensland.

If you are wondering what we are doing here in this freezing cold place (yes, we definitely underestimated the temperatures during the winter time here… *brrrrrr* :freezing:), we are working and working and working – actually about 12 to 16 hours a day, 7 days a week and this for the next 3 month to refill our travel fund! :funmeterno:

You don’t believe us? Hera is the photographic evidence!

We´ll continue travelling in the End of September, heading up to Cairns and start our trip down the East coast from there in the Beginning of October!

And you can believe us, we are REALLY looking forward to be on the road again! :mchappy:

Cheers from the “labor camp” ;)

Hello all together!

Some of you may remember us, but some probably will never have heard from us before… unfortunately, our last update in this blog is quite a while ago, too…

So we thought that the time has home to send a sign of live. Yes, we are still alive and yes, we are still “on the road”. And after nearly 2 years of traveling around the world, luckily there is still no end in sight!

A couple of days ago our motorcycles and we arrived back from „the island“, in our case, we shipped back from beautiful Tasmania to the Australian main land. At the moment we are sitting in Melbourne, organizing some paperwork and stuff like that before we´ll hit the road again in the beginning of next week. Our next destination? Westwards! :scooter:

In the last almost 2 years since we are on our motorcycle travel around the world, a lot has happened! We rode our bikes through Eastern Europe, East Asia and Southeast Asia. Now we are traveling through Down Under where we´ll stay until the end of this year and then… heading for new shores!

If you have become interested, then please visit our web pagewww.timetoride.deor our Facebook pagewww.facebook.com/pages/Time-to-ride/115955945143396. There you can find lots of travel reports, pictures, videos and many interesting things more!
And only recently we have released our brand new “Twitter”-Account https://twitter.com/Time_to_Ride where we will keep you informed about our fantastic journey as well!

Cheers from rainy Melbourne

As our time in Australia is nearly over, we wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to all Austrailan bikers! :thumbup1:

Thank you for your great tips and advices and thank you for all your kind offers to give us a roof over our head for a couple of days. We so really, really appreciate this!

Unfortunately it was impossible for us to meet all of you as Australia is a huge country and after 1 ½ years of traveling, we still haven´t seen all of it yet.

(That´s actually a really good reason to come back some day! :thumbup1:)

We are in Brisbane right now where we´ll celebrate Christmas before we fly over to Auckland in a couple of days.
Our bikes are at the port already, waiting for their ship to New Zealand.
If everything goes well we´ll be back on the road in NZ at the beginning of January where another part of our journey begins.

If you want to follow our travel – we have still plenty of countries left to go :scooter: - please visit our web page www.TimetoRide.de which is now available in English as well as in German and other languages.
And also have a look at our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Time-to-ride/115955945143396 for the latest pictures and news.

Once again, thank you for your great support while visiting your beautiful country!

Hello all together,

Our new travel report „The Rock“ is about THE ONE rock in Australia.

Of course there are plenty of travel reports and pictures about the Uluru but of course, as soon as we arrived there, dark clouds have been risen from the horizon… but that´s not always a bad sign!

What we exactly experienced in the heart of Australia you can read here:

even if we have absolutely no Christmas feeling – maybe it´s because its 30 degree hot here in Australia and the sun is burning from the sky – we want to use the opportunity to wish all of you a Merry Christmas!

After a long 14 day separation from our bikes it was finally time for our reunion.
Thanks to the unbelievable helpful staff from the biosecurity and the Auckland port security we´ve been able to get our bikes back just before the weekend.

Yeha!!! :-)

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...66188059_n.jpg

It´s been our first day on the road and New Zealand showed its best sides already.
Wonderful summer weather, fantastic winding gravel road through secluded landscapes and a breathtaking view over the coast.
That definitely makes the heart of every motorcycle traveler beat faster!

Hey Guys!

In our new travel report „temporary farewell” it´s all about preparing our faithful travel companions for their “great journey”.

But despite of all the shipping stress we found the time to have a closer look around the Gold Coast and Brisbane and we experienced a fantastic Christmas day including gift giving and feast! :-)

G´day!

As we left Australia just recently after 1 ½ years it´s time to publish a (quite extensive) conclusion about this (quite big) country. We start with our very personal conclusion about Australia and give you some practical and helpful tips and tricks. Furthermore we listed all our required wearing parts, equipment defects and much more. We also give you all details about shipping us and our motorcycles from Australia to New Zealand.

Fazit Australien - TimetoRide - Auf Motorrad-Weltreise mit Bea und Helle

Furthermore we have a couple of new travel reports about New Zealand:

In our first travel report „Release on bail“ it´s all about our first experiences and impressions in New Zealand and our “battle” with the New Zealand authorities and against the time to get our two travel companions free.
If we made it?
You will find out here!

http://u.jimdo.com/www65/o/sd8deb1de.../std/image.jpg

In our second travel report „The forgotten World!“ we´ll report about our first kilometers on New Zealand´s roads which turned out to be an absolute motorcycle highlight already. Among other things we´ll tell you about our exciting trip along the “Forgotten World Highway” to the rebellious republic of “Whangamomona” where we even got an own entry stamp into our passport!

And our new travel report „The proposal“ is now online, too. Who got a proposal from whom, why we discovered parts of the North Island in a foursome and many more you can find out in our travel diaries.

As the name suggests, our new travel report „Upside Down“ is about things (or motorcycles?) which stand overhead.
Furthermore we are visiting the place with the longest name on earth and we make a detour to the most southern point of the North Island of New Zealand, where we have quite close contact to some fur seals.

Today we have 2 new travel reports up our sleeve:

On the one hand in our new travel report „Somewhere over the rainbow“ it´s all about… a rainbow?
No, not really.
But we´re exploring the Rainbow Road, a well known Offroad track through the stunning untouched nature of New Zealand´s South Island.
Furthermore we´re exploring Christchurch together with the “German motorcycle gang”.

Sounds interesting?

And on the other hand in our new travel report „The mountain is calling!” it´s all about mountains. Well, almost everything.
We have been introduced into the Maori tradition as well and tried delicious Hāngi. What, you don´t know what Hāngi is? Then read our travel report and find it out! :-)

In our new travel report „In the land of the long gray cloud“ we are exploring the solitary vastness of the South Island.

Furthermore we are visiting the steepest road in the world as well as the deepest lake in Oceania.

Well, and as the title of the travel report suggests, we are able to enjoy the pleasure of the typical New Zealand weather once again. ;-)

G´day mates!

It is nearly been a month since you heard from us last. But that doesn´t mean that there haven´t been any news on our web page. Quite the contrary, in the meantime we have released 3 new travel reports!

In our first travel report „A freezing surprise” New Zealand surprised us one more time with its diversity.
From fresh snow in the Alps to summer temperatures by the sea to our battle against the sand flies there is much going on this time!

http://u.jimdo.com/www65/o/sd8deb1de...orig/image.jpg

In our second travel report In our new travel report „Step by step farewell“ it´s all about our last days on New Zealand´s South Island.
We explore some secluded gravel roads along the bays and fjords around the breathtaking Marlborough Sounds.
Furthermore Bea has a little “accident” with her bike and we experience a tropical thunderstorm on our way up North.

(Please use language select button on right hand side of the page!)

http://u.jimdo.com/www65/o/sd8deb1de...orig/image.jpg

And in our latest travel report „Just the usual madhouse” it´s not about a streak of bad luck but of rain which is hunting us for weeks now.
Furthermore we are meeting our friend and fellow motorcycle traveler Paul again and Helmut has to slave for the new rubber on our tires.

Enjoy!

Furthermore, we have another exciting news: We arrived at our destination for the next couple of weeks!

While our bikes have to spend some time on the high sea crossing the Pacific Ocean (hopefully) unscathed we visit our home country.

We will use this “forced stop over” not only to visit our families and friends but also to work and thereby refilling our travel funds.

Nevertheless we still have plenty of travel reports, user reviews and one or another new video up our sleeve.

So it remains exciting, even if we are back home for a couple of weeks!

Bea & Helle 8 Jun 2014 12:21

G´day mates!

Despite our „7 to 4 job“ we have been quite busy during the last couple of weeks and have released not one but two new travel reports on our web page.

In our first travel report „Course north” we are exploring New Zealand´s far north.

Amongst other things we are fighting with a whole crowd of people for a hot spring on a beach, we are enjoying riding our motorcycles along the windy costal roads of the Coromandel Peninsula and in Auckland we get spoiled with original Bavarian Käsespätzle (cheese Spaetzle).

Furthermore we enjoy the great Kiwi hospitality once again and we experience one of our highlights in New Zealand, we are riding our bikes on the famous Ninety Mile Beach.
What a ride!

(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

http://u.jimdo.com/www65/o/sd8deb1de...orig/image.jpg

And as the title „The last kilometers…“ suggests, in our latest travel report it is all about our last motorcycle kilometers on New Zealand soil.

And these last kilometers have a lot to offer. We are visiting the most northern point of the North Island and we are training our motorcycle riding skills in the deep sand around the foot of massive sand dunes.

Furthermore Helmut becomes the victim of a nasty wasp attack and he has to deal with some more difficulties… :)

Hello!

In our new travel report „Ka kite anoo Aotearoa!“ it´s time to say goodbye to the “land of the long white cloud” and to our friend Rik from Auckland who supported us so much.

Sometimes New Zealand made it quite hard for us to travel, as the weather conditions often haven´t been easy, but we will really miss the fantastic motorcycle roads, the incredible landscape and the friendly and helpful people!

Enjoy!

In our second travel report „Seperate ways“ we… no, don´t panik, we don´t go separate ways now!

In fact, we have to send our faithful travel companions on a big journey all alone once again.

Therefore we have to prepare our bikes “Alperer” and “Dicke Rosi” and fit them into their new “ temporary homes”.

But the clock is ticking and we don´t have much time left until our booked container vessel departs.

If we will make it and get our bikes ready to go in time? Have a look at our new travel report and find it out:

Enjoy!

And we have released a new field report, this time about our Priums OmniFuel fuel cooker.

It starts with our search for a suitable cooker and the correct handling of a fuel cooker.

We also share our experience with the cooker in its daily use and tell you everything interesting you need to know about fuel cookers.

G´day mates,

lately we´ve been very quiet but during our stop over back in our home country Germany we´ve been very busy with fulltime jobs and preparing the next leg of our motorcycle journey.

But since one week we are in South America and now we´ll finally continue with posting exciting and informative travel reports, videos and pictures!

To finish our motorcycle travel through Oceania we want to begin with our „Conclusion New Zealand“ which is finally online!

We have not only collected information about entering the country, the costs for camping & living and track information but we also share our personal tips & tricks which helped us a lot during our almost four month stay in New Zealand.

Furthermore we give you many useful information, prices, contact persons and GPS-coordinates about our motorcycle transport from New Zealand to Chile.

We hope that the information provided will help you plan your own motorcycle trip to New Zealand!

G´day mates,

our first South America travel report „All mans business“ is about Helmut on tour without Bea. But instead her he get´s supported by his mate Markus. The two went to Chile to deal with the customs and to get our bikes out of the port and they had to organize a safe parking place for our bikes for the next two month. But where is Bea? And why storing the bikes for two month?

In our new travel report „It´s getting colorful!“ things are getting lively!

We are exploring the Andes off the beaten tourist tracks, we are picking up with the Argentinean vegetation which is proverbially leaving a lasting impression with us and we are hurling ourselves into the chaos of the traditional veneration of the saints together with hundreds of Argentineans!

G´day mates!

It´s been a while since we last updated our travel reports, but today we even have three new travel reports for you!

In our travel report "Improvisation is everything!" we are visiting the world´s largest copper mine and after we literally make off back to the Pacific coast we meet up with other motorcycle travellers and try to solve our clutch problem in a very special way.

http://www.timetoride.de/2015/02/09/südamerika-11-chile-improvisation-ist-alles/
(Please use the translation button on the right hand side of the page!)

Our travel through Chile continues!

In our travel report “A ride into the uncertain” we meet up with a couple of old and new travel friends, enjoying some great days together.

Furthermore we are visiting the world´s largest pool which fits the unbelievable volume of 200.000 bathtubs full of salt water and we are heading towards the Lonquimay volcano, not knowing what adventures and challenges are awaiting us on the way.

(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

You want to know if our river crossing was successful or if we “took a bath” together with our bikes?

You will find out in our new travel report “Chiles longest shortcut” while you will accompany us along an adventurous track into the mountain region of Central Chile.

But it´s not just that we have to cross freezing cold mountain rivers, we also have to climb up steep hills, ride or bikes on rough roads and, to crown it all, we have to battle against wind and rain as well.

How our journey ended?

You will find out here:

AND:

We´ve made it!
Another huge milestone of our adventurous motorcycle travel around the world is done:

We have arrived in USHUAIA the southernmost city of the world!!!

From now on we will only head North.

If we would follow the straight route along the Panamericana, we would be in Alaska in not more than 17.848 km.

So let´s meet up in Prudhoe Bay in about 14 days! ;)

G´day mates!

Even if it´s been a while since Christmas Eve, in our new travel report „Feliz Navidad“ it´s all about Christmas. Unfortunately we haven´t been able to celebrate Christmas with our families and friends for the fourth year in a row, but we still enjoyed the time just with the two of us.

Furthermore a typical Bavarian dish nearly ruined New Years Eve for Bea.

Why?

G´day mates!

We have heard a couple of stories about the famous Carretera Austral already.

This some hundred kilometres long offroad track in the very South of Chile should lead through dense, untouched rain forest and along empty ocean bays and deep blue lakes. But stories are told that the track also is in a very bad condition, full of thousands of potholes, deep enough that allegedly some fellow travellers disappeared in them and haven´t been seen ever again. Together with thick, loose gravel and endless stretches of wash board riding this track should be a real challenge.

But what´s really true about this myth and what not, that is what we wanna find out ourselves and so we set out for the dream road of every Patagonian traveller.

In our new travel report “Carretera Austral” you will find out what we really experience on the road!

Ah, by the way!

We are not just working on updating our travel reports regularly, the category “Equipment” needed a spring-cleaning as well!

We started with the subcategory “Electronics”, which is now even more detailed and informative.

In addition we will present all our new equipment we are travelling with right now on the home page of our blog periodically.

We will start with the SENA Bluetooth Audio Pack for our new GoPro 3 + which opens us a whole range of new and interesting possibilities for our videos.

We have made the first part of the famous Carretera Austral with no problems, but our ride along the rough and wild coastal landscape in southern Patagonia hasn´t come to its end yet!

In our new travel report “Carretera Reloaded” we are hiking on the top of an still active volcano, exploring hidden marble caves in the Lago General Carrera and battling the capricious Patagonian climate.

G´day mates!

If you think the German deposit system is complicated and very bureaucratic, you are completely wrong!

In our new travel report “Death the Argentinean deposit system” we will tell you about our daily gauntlet running on the Argentinean supermarket check outs.

But there are good things to talk about, too. Helmut did some first aid help on an Argentinean Transalp and for once we used our feed not just for braking and shifting but also for hiking the famous Mount Fitz-Roy.
Well, a few kilometres at least... ;-)

G´day Mates!

In South America BBQ´s are not just an important part of the food culture, it´s also a way of life.

In our new travel report “It´s Asado-Time” we are following a lamb´s way onto the fire up close and are contributing a little bit of our Bavarian culture to this important event... ;)

Furthermore we have to move with our portable home into a tent ghetto for a couple of days before we are able to escape into the rough Patagonian nature at the shore of the Magellan Street.

And we are celebrating the reunion with an old travel friend we first met in Australia...

G´day mates!

We take the ferry across the Magellan Street to the legendary island “Tierra del Fuego” from where we have some more exhausting days of riding before we finally arrive in Ushuaia.

A few years ago we would never have dreamed about riding our own old motorcycles to the most southern city of the world. We also would never have dreamed that the wind in southern Patagonia can be that strong that it blows a motorcycle down like it´s a toy... :-)

And if you think that nowadays there are no more treasures to hunt you are wrong. In our new travel report “The treasure from the Garibaldi Pass” we will proof you the opposite! :-)

G´day mates!

Work first, then pleasure.

This is the slogan of our new travel report „No ice without sweat!”, because Helmut has to drudge first before we are able to visit the impressive Perito Moreno glacier in the South of Argentina.

Furthermore we are killing time together with about 50 other Argentineans on a gas station and we are enjoying a great camping evening together with old and new motorcycle travel friends.

G´day mates!

We have actually planned to celebrate Bea´s birthday with a relaxed BBQ and a cold beer, but things sometimes turn out very differently than planned…

But our new travel report “A different birthday surprise” is not just about Bea´s great day, we also visiting the National Park `Los Alerces´, which not just surprised us with its stunning untouched nature but also with forest fires & storm and rain.

Furthermore we are looking forward to another meet up with old and new travel friends.

We have some news and updates in our category „Equipment“, too:

Almost four years of travelling around the world on our motorcycles have also left some marks on our camping equipment.

What has proven successful?
What did we sort out?
Do we have a “must-have”, that we would never wanna miss again in our daily camping life?

In our completely redesigned category “Equipment -> Camping” you will find answers to all this questions and many more:

G´day mates!

From the relaxed motorcycle traveler’s paradise „La Posta“ in Azul we are heading into the urban jungle of Buenos Aries, which is welcoming us with 13 million citizens, a ten-lane motorway and a proper traffic chaos!

Luckily the motorcycle community in Argentina is fantastic and so we have a warm welcome and a place to stay at a motorcycle enthusiastic local couple´s place.

After a couple of days of marathon sightseeing in Argentina’s capital it´s time for new adventures and so we set off for Uruguay and have been rewarded with a stunning sunset at the shore of Rio Uruguay.

At the beginning of our trip we thought we just have important and useful equipment with us, but that doesn´t mean that our opinion had proven right over the time.

This is the reason why we have the category “Field reports” on our web page and today we added another long term equipment field report:

We have used the SENA SMH 10 Bluetooth Communication System almost daily for 26 month and now we give you a detailed report about the system, how it works, what it offers and if we´ve been satisfied with it!

G´day mates!

To be honest, we had no concrete idea about what is waiting for us in an exotic country like “Uruguay”.

But maybe that´s the reason why we have been surprised in such a positive way!
We camped on wonderful beaches and isolated lagoons, we strolled along cobbled alleys through historic colonial style towns and met unbelievable friendly and curious people.

But that´s by far not all this small country located on the South American Atlantic coast has to offer, in our new travel report “Different than expected!” you will find out more!

From now on the navigation in our category „Travel diary“ is even more easy, as you can now select your favorite travel report with just one click in an interactive Google Map!

Before we say goodbye to Uruguay we are visiting the capital Montevideo where we discover the historic old town by foot.

Helmut also has to do some major work on our trusted travel companions which takes quite a while. But at least now they are like new! :)

After a two week work stop near Montevideo the road is finally calling again and we are heading for Brazil.

G´day Mates!

Right in the beginning of our time in Brazil we were facing a couple of surprises, adventures and nightly odysseys.

We didn´t expect that Brazil isn´t welcoming us with sunny beaches, summer temperatures and delicious cocktails but with dull November weather, short days and rain.

Despite these ups and downs we are looking forward to discover more of Brazil, but for now we want share some of our previous Brazilian adventures with you in our current travel report “A “frosty” welcome!”:

Hi all together!

We had a tough time over the last 3 month as we needed to ride our bikes about 10.000 km from Brazil to Columbia.
Therefore we had no time to update our posts here in the forum…

But that doesn´t mean that there is nothing new on our blog, quite the contrary, there is plenty of new stuff to explore!

The most important first: We´ve released A NEW VIDEO!

Join us on our way in the Argentinean Andes mountains up to nearly 5.000 meter where we have to battle with thin air, rough roads, strong winds an sand.

On our further way through Chile and Argentina we are following a track into the snow-capped mountains, where we have to face one of the greatest challenges of our previous journey that leads us to our physical and mental limits.
Will we be able to master this challenge as a team?

See for yourself and be part of our adventure America del Sur:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPIgSCpw8zI
~ English subtitles and HD video quality are available via the “settings” options ~

Furthermore we have released 5 new travel reports about our exciting and adventurous travel through Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia!

In the category “Travel diary South America” you will find an overview of all our new travel reports:
Südamerika - TimetoRide - Auf Motorrad-Weltreise mit Bea und Helle
(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

In our newest travel report „No man´s land“ we are crossing hundreds of kilometers of harsh, scorching savannah.
In this part the Trans-Chaco-Highway turned into a mogul slope with lots of sand passages and so we are very exhausted but happy as we returned back into civilization just a few kilometers after the Bolivian border.

But we don´t stay long as the Second Death Road, one of South Americas most dangerous roads is awaiting us. The track turns out to be a real challenge for us and our bikes.

On our further way north we are riding higher and higher into the Andes up until 4.100 m, where we got hit by the altitude sickness with strong headaches, shortness of breath and racing heart.
So it happens that we are going to try a proven Bolivian household remedy: chewing coca leaves!

Still not completely recovered but nevertheless full of anticipation we were riding to one of THE highlights of our travel through South America, the Salar de Uyuni, a giant salt lake in the middle of the Bolivian Altiplano.

Click here for more exciting and adventurous stories about our travel through Paraguay and Bolivia:

(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

http://image.jimcdn.com/app/cms/imag...7196/image.jpg

Furthermore we have updated our category „Field reports”!

We are using our gore-tex motorcycle clothing DANE LIMFJORD motorcycle jacked and BRØNDBY motorcycle trousers every day for more than 1 ½ years now and that not just while riding our bikes but also when we have to work on the bikes, when we sit on the camp fire, when we are on a short hike and sometimes even when we are sleeping.

How is our DANE motorcycle clothing dealing with this permanent use, which goes far beyond the standard use motorcycle clothing is actually made for?

We have tested the motorcycle clothing extensively and summarized the experiences and opinions we made in 1 ½ years of permanent use in our new field report.

http://www.timetoride.de/ausr%C3%BCstung/erfahrungsberichte/
(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

http://image.jimcdn.com/app/cms/imag...5487/image.jpg

And we alsohave three new questions we would like to answer you in our category Frequently Asked Questions „FAQ“!

# How do I create a blog and who is responsible for our web presence?

# Who is responsible for cutting and editing our videos and how does it work?

# Reporting from on the road – how does it work?

Click here for detailed information to all three questions:
http://www.timetoride.de/2015/06/08/faq/
(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

But that´s still not all!
Our category „TRAVEL DIARY“ received a facelift, too!

From now on the category is structured even more clearly and you can select all travel reports via interactive Google Maps, sorted by continent.

Moreover you can select separate continents and our page will show you an overview over all our travel reports of the selected region.

We hope this improvement will make your browse through our travel reports even more easy and pleasant!

Click here for the newly designed category „TRAVEL DIARY“:
http://www.timetoride.de/reisetagebuch/
(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

As you can see, there´s plenty of new stuff to check out on our blog!

Enjoy!

Cheers, currently from windy and cold Bogota/Columbia,
Bea & Helmut

Bea & Helle 30 Oct 2015 22:04

G´day mates!

And we also have a news update in our category „Electronic“:

Over 4 years of sand, dust and washboard have left it´s traces on our Nikon D5100 which we have in use since we started our trip. So now it was finally time to get the camera exchanged.

In our category “Electronic” you will find detailed information about our new camera:

G´day mates,

In our new travel report „Bolivia hard as nails” we are following the trails of the Spanish colonial masters, we explore a Bolivian witch-market and we are sitting in the first row, when real power ladies with flowing skirts and flying ponytails entering the ring to fight against each other.

Besides we have to battle with chaotic traffic, tired of life drivers and unwilling gas station attendants.

But that´s not all, we have also update our “service categories”:

LET THERE BE LIGHT!

We have updated our category „Equipment“ -> „Camping“.

A couple of no-name-headlamps conked out during our travel already, so now we decided to buy a quality headlamp from Black Diamond.

If they keep what they promise?

We use our new headlamps for a couple of month now and if we are satisfied with them you will find out here:

(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

NEW CATEGORY!

We have received many email requests from you regarding to the topic “SOFTWARE”:

- Can you recommend a good web page provider where everyone can set up his/her own web page in only a few easy steps?
- Which program do you use to create your videos and your animated travel route?
- What about photo editing?
- Are there any possibilities to send large amounts of data from abroad?

In our new category “Software” we will give you answers to this and many more questions!

We hope to provide some useful information for you!

G´day mates!

Right in time for the first of Advent we are presenting all about OUR PERFECT TRAVEL MOTORDCYCLE in our category MOTORCYCKE MODIFICATIONS.

A relationship that can´t be any more intense.
Beside the inner values the external appearance counts as well and so Helmut took action himself and modified our bikes over and over again.

AND THE BEST:
As from the 1th of December instead of an chocolate-Advent calendar we will reveal a new “door” with exciting details regarding to our bike modifications every day:
www.timetoride.de/motorradumbau
(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

http://bit.ly/1ILoFN3

We have opened 5 doors already, but there is plenty more to come!

BUT THAT´S NOT ALL!

From Bolivia we are heading for Peru, but on the border we encounter problems with picky border officials and unexpected problems already which had cost us a lot of “persuasiveness”.

After we managed this obstacle, southern Peru is awaiting us with several extraordinary experiences.

We are visiting the 3.800 m high Lake Titicaca, where we catch a boat to the unique “floating reed-islands”.

Furthermore Helmut is battling with the spare parts supply in Cusco, a city of 350.000 inhabitants, for days.

Eventually Helmut solved our motorcycle problems and it´s time for us to explore one of the highlight of Peru: We are going to visit the famous Inca-town Maccu Picchu. But we haven’t expected that even the ride there turned out to be a real adventure!

In our NEW TRAVEL REPORT “THE HERITAGE OF THE INCA” you will find out more:

(Please use the language select button on the right hand side of the page!)

“The gift of Christmas is the insight, that while we are searching the great and extraordinary, we will find our happiness in the inconspicuous and small.”

A Happy Christmas to our family, friends and all the fantastic people out there who are accompanying us on the adventure of our lifetime!

Your enthusiasm, your support, your encouraging words and your joy make our journey what it is.

Therefore we want to say THANK YOU!

Thank you for 4 ½ years and over 110.000 km full of adventures and freedom, but also full of borderline experiences and difficult moments, which we had to master as a team.

We are looking forward to many more kilometers on the road and many more adventures we will experience together with you in 2016!

And one thing is for sure, there are still plenty of exciting things out there to discover and as we´ve never been friends of fixed plans and set routes, we´ve just recently decided to change our travel plans for the next year and, instead of following the beaten track, we are heading for new shores…
You may be curious! :-)

Kind Christmas greetings from Columbia,

Hi together!

Over the last two month it has been pretty quiet about us, but we haven´t been been just sitting back doing nothing. Quite the contrary!

We and our motorcycles braved a stormy sailing trip with a historic two-master sailing boat from 1903 which brought us and our trusted travel companions over the rough Caribbean sea until Cuba.

When we finally arrived at Cuba after this exciting and adventurous crossing, we became the unique chance to unload our bikes from the ship and explore Cuba on our own bikes!

We went on an unbelievable time-travel back into another century and so it also was with the internet availability which is very limited and very expensive in Cuba.

So it happened, that it has been pretty quiet about us during the last time. But we can reassure you. We are fine, we are still on the road and above all: In the near future we have plenty of exciting news, pictures and stories for you!

And if you want to have a first impression about our unique time in Cuba, check out our Facebook page where we have posted a couple of spectacular pictures about our motorcycle journey through Cuba already:

Enjoy!

Bea & Helle

Finally we have a NEW TRAVEL REPORT for you!

In our new travel report „EL PADRÓN DE COLOMBIA“ we are wandering along the tracks of the legendary drug lord Pablo Escobar, who covered his home country with death and terror for decades.

Furthermore we are visiting a gigantic salt cathedra, hiding about 200 m below the surface and we are exploring the historic old town of Bogota with its gold museum, countless pomp-palaces and heavily armed security forces.
