A question about maps
Can anyone advise where I can get maps of Africa in the UK? I'm looking to find maps suitable for trip planning (and then to use whilst on the road.
Thanks in advance! |

It certainly does Dave and thank you

how many do i need?
So the next question is after route planning, how many individual country maps do i need to bring on a solo moto trip from italy to Capetown? Tobi said 3 michelins is all he used. ITM makes several good country maps of east africa. Bring everything you can (with my weight and space limitations) or is T4A enough?
what about LP guidebooks? |
I wouldn't bother with LP. Try this if space is at a premium:

Get a cheap GPS and T4A maps. They're great.

I have a copy of the above book for sale which is great for planning and on the road. We used it a lot in West Africa. PM me if interested.
Agree with Ted on maps. If space is tight T4A are the way forward. There is loads and loads of info on them for East and southern Africa, not so much West but this is improving. G |
+1 for the Stanfords Map shop in London
Definitely take paper maps even if you are taking a GPS The Michelin Maps for Africa are good and compact - 2 should maps should cover any trans-africa trip. And you can get them on Amazon |
The set of three Michelin nos 741, 745 and 746 are good enough for your whole trip and cover the entire continent, you might want to pick up more detailed maps locally but I did a trans Africa trip using just these three and never got lost.

Three Michelins, east, west and south...

T4A for the gps and their paper maps for the southern africa countries. Go to t4a web site.
