Africa - What's hot and wha'ts not?
Hello
After one years planning, I only have one year left to go before I leave for Africa. It’s surprising how quickly time goes when you’re having fun poring over maps, country guides and reading the HUBB. This post is for all those people that are in Africa or have travelled through Africa. What I’m basically interested in is what you think is worth seeing and what you thought was a real disappointment. Please include tourist and non-tourist sites. Well anything really. The list of countries I’m planning on travelling through are… Leaving from the UK France Spain Morocco Mauritania Senegal Mali Burkina Faso Niger Nigeria Cameroon Gabon Congo DRC Angola Namibia South Africa Botswana Zimbabwe Zambia Tanzania Kenya Ugandia Ethiopia Sudan Egypt Jordan Syria Turkey Greece Back to the UK. Thanks |
Once you've been to Namibia the rest if irrelevant ;-)

France - Ha!
Spain - Go to Portugal! It's fantastic and cheap Morocco - Chefchaouen Mauritania - Auberge Sahara in NKT Senegal - Camping Robinson in St Louis Mali - Nioro-Diema road is hell but you'll e glad you did it Burkina Faso - Noel at Casafrica is a great bloke Niger - Not the zoo in Niamey Nigeria - Cops in the North are nice Tanzania - Zanzibar nice for a holiday Kenya - Nairobi is great Uganda - Jinja (rafting) Ethiopia - poss my favourite. Cool weather at last. Greece - I like Paros! |
I got the ferry from Spain to Mellila, and (arriving at 6am!) it felt like a good start to a long trip. Just slipping into Africa pretty much un-noticed. No touts like Tanger, the police/officials gave me the customs forms and showed me where to queue. From there over the Rif mountains. Excellent.
Blue Nile Gorge north of Addis (towards Gondar) is a pretty good ride. The museums in Addis a pretty good too, for some off the bike stuff Mali, the Catholic Mission in Bamako (if you can get in) is a good place to stay. |
