Aktau -> Baku ferry
 

Anyone taken this recently? I going to be there in September and am wondering how long I'm going to have to wait for the ferry...

We did the Caspian Sea crossing Baku Aktau 6 weeks ago. We waited in Baku for 4 days and phoned the shipping company daily until we got the message to go to the Port at Alat; once there we then waited approximately 10 hours to board the ferry. The crossing took 3 days, as they dropped anchor shortly after leaving Port.
There really is no predictability; others had been waiting up to 10 days for the ship to arrive some more fortunate travellers turned up the same day and crossed.
