Alaska to Panama Aug to Jan??
I'm planning on atrip later this yer and just wanted some advice on whether ewather wise this looks good.
August - Alaska September Canada/North USA October Central and south USA November USA/Baja California December Mexico January Central America (Mexico down to Panama) Obviously how long I stay in each place will depend on how much I like it and if I ask for your opinion I'll get very different views on how long I "need" to do say, Mexico. So all Im' asking really is, weather wise does this look good. I am assuming October is too soon to be in Central America (hurricanes?) I would also like to then ship my bike from Panama to South Africa. Does anyone have any experience of this? Oh one other thing. I'm in the UK and am thinking it might be cheaper/easier to buy my bike in Alaksa. I assume this would not be a problem with getting it out of the country etc. Anyone have experience of this?? If you plan on going up the Dalton to Deadhorse, be prepared for harsh weather. I went up there second week of August of 2009, and encountered rain, below freezing temps (water bottle was frozen solid camping over night) and snow going over the Atigun Pass. TravellingStrom went up a week before me, and had a wonderful ride with sunny weather and wide views of the North Slope.
Went through Mex/CA in Oct/Nov and had both sweltering heat and torrential rains. The point being; weather conditions can change rapidly. Just prepare for varying conditions (layers and solid rain gear) and you will be alright. Have fun! |
