April 2019 - 7/8 days - where to?!
With a standing agreement with my wife to get 1 overland bike trip in a year, with a maximum of week away - inc. both weekends, so 10 days including flights max from London, I'm plotting next year's adventure.
This year was written off for bike trips, but last year I did the Annapurna circuit in 8 days. The previous year I tackled Morocco. The year before that I did the high gravel roads of the Italian and French alps. In years gone by I did Latin America. For 2019 I'm hugely tempted to return to Morocco - a short cheap flight, cheap once you're there and a stunning variety of dirt roads and terrain - high snow capped mountains, sandy deserts and rugged desert mountains. Before I commit to Morocco, does anyone have any other ideas? Tajikistan is on my radar, but I reckon I'll need 2 weeks away for that trip. I'd love to return to Peru, but I again it's arguably too far and too expensive for just a week. I'm planning on traveling over Easter 2019, but open to traveling at any time of the year ultimately. Thanks in advance! |
Morocco sounds pretty good. Think about the Canary Islands as well - they're mountainous, could be fun riding.
Anything in continental Europe will probably still be too cold. A further-afield option is Northern Vietnam. I did it over Christmas and it was chilly but doable, April should be warm but not oppressive. It's an overnight bus trip from Hanoi to Ha Giang, and the basic loop is 3 days, though you can add up days on top of that quite easily. |
Northern Thailand is a biking paradise. A 7-8-9 days loop there would be perfect. April is the hottest month of year though...
