Argentina-Alaska-Argentina
Hi! after my presentation i open this thread to consult you about everything related to my dream!
As the title says i want to travel from Argentina to Alaska and then come back to Argentina again(i calculate 1 year aprox the hole trip). Has any did something similiar? Besides the gas, oil and parts for my bike, anyone has like a excel with the expenses (sleep, food, tolls, etc)? All the recomendatios that you have they will be very grateful! Thanks Your friend el Charly |
Hi Charly
Just to have an answer to you question. Its a great dream and why not, just go for it if this is what you want. Although you ask for precise details on costs for various things. I think this is a very difficult thing to answer and one that you on your own adventure would find extremely difficult to stick with. Costs on your own expenditure depents on what type of accommodation you prefer again what type of food you like or drink and to what quantities. Unknown costs to wear and tear depends on how and where you ride. And prices due to the model of moto you ride. All very different. Timing is down to you but you must factor in a couple or three very big choices . Firstly the crossing of the Darien Gap and you will do this twice. How you cross and the big costs in doing so. The waiting for the correct time will add to this. Then there is riding in North Canada and Alaska you need to work out the best time to get there and back. Weather permitting. Also the USA is hugely expensive for everything. I say this because I have ready done the journey down to Ushuaia and then up to Alaska and currently half way back now in Mexico. However I have more available time than you so the Four years its taken me thus far I understand is too much for you. But maybe one year to go all the way up and back could be a bit of a rush. All good if you just want to ride but leaves not much time to enjoy all these wonderful countries and spectacular sights along the way. Fantastic people and taking in a bit of the varied cultures. But still go for it best way is go lite take care and enjoy the journey not so much on the destinations. Good wishes. B |
I rode from Washington State (next to the Canadian border) to Ushuaia and back to Washington. That's probably equivalent to your Argentina-Alaska-Argentina trip unless you're also planning to start and end in Ushuaia.
It took a year, and at times I was definitely hurrying--not as much as some people, more than others. I did spend 3 weeks on an Antarctica trip, and I slowed down or stalled out at various times to deal with mechanical problems, romance, touristic sites, trekking, impassable roads, and areas of special interest. You could do it in a lot less time, but you could easily spend a lot more--your choice. Per the post above, no one can really estimate costs without knowing a lot more about your travel style. There are, however, threads on these forums which discuss costs, including some detailed spreadsheets. I spent about US $100 per day overall, but of course that includes the Antarctica trip, all maintenance and running expenses, lodging, meals, beer, and all else. Others claim to have paid a quarter of that, or even less; a perfect example of how YMMV. Hope that's helpful. Mark |
thank you so much for your answers and the good vibes!!!
Its a must to meet you guys in my future trip! you are crazy as me! The thing is that its more difucult for people like me(because everything is harder in south america) thats why im on a tight budget, so i looking for someone who has like a excel with the gas and food expenses so i can calculate it for myself I know that every person spends the money difently or has others prioritys, but its just to make a average! My top expenses will be gas, food, sleeping and paperwork! All this trip is going to be on my 150cc reliable Honda All the uss dolars data that you have will be appreciated. Talking about the time, i know that one year is little time for this kind of expierence :( (again in argentina its not common this kind of trips, and getting a jog here its getting harder everyday, so to quit a job you have to be very confident of what you are doing) Sorry for my english Greeting you El Carlos (The Charly) |

1 year for Argentina - Alaska - Argentina sounds challenging. It took me 13 months to get to Costa Rica and probably would need another 10 months to get to Alaska :) As for money question you can chek out Mike and Shanon page http://www.smboilerworks.com/money/ - they are providing quite good summary of the trip. For me so far is around 30 USD per day including Darien Gap, bike maintenance, food, accomondation and ec. I did the trip Canada/Argentina in 1980. I will never forget how much so many Argentinians went out of their way to help me.
I live in Puerto Escondido in Mexico November to April. There are a lot of young Argentinians doing surf here. I'm back to Canada from May to October. I live along the US border and you will have to ride the Highway 97 and it's 4 km away from my home. I will be following your thread. You can contact me for any querries or needs whether you are travelling in Mexico or in Canada. |

Si, Colombia Argentina ida y vuelta 1500 u$s. En USA compré una moto en Miami y di la vuelta en 60 días, pero no recuerdo bien el presupuesto, usé mucho la carpa allá.
