from Australia around the world in 1 year
 

Hi everyone,

I feel a bit overwhelmed right now as I dont know where to start in planning our route from Australia and around the world. Where to go, what cities to see etc. so if anyone can help me with this would be mostly appreciated.

We do need a little more information, what do you prefer cities or countryside any particular continents? That sort of thing, I suggest you have a read through the ride reports both here and on other forums and see what other people have done and start to form a plan from that.
Whatever you decide your route can be dictated by seasons, regulations and politics and by reading other people's accounts you will get an idea of what is possible.
You might look at Australia to Europe, that can take a year if you are in no rush and once in SE Asia it is possible to ride the whole way.

I think Mark's response is a good one. The world is a fairly big place, so without some direction I'm not sure how we can advise you.

When I am visiting a place I've never been, I pick a few key spots I'd really like to visit, plan a route that hits them, and then hope that I manage to see those points.

Maybe just start with one continent that you'd like to visit first, say Asia or South America. Pick about 5 or 6 items in that continent that are "bucket list" worthy, and start researching what's involved with seeing those sites. Then get a map and plot out a route between them. Try to gauge how long it will take to plod from point A to point B to point C, and then double that time for sight seeing along the way.

At this stage, I think a visit to the Lonely Planet or similar web sites might be more useful than this site. LP and other sites will tell you what's there to see, whereas we'll tell you how to get your motorcycle there.

I love google earth for planning any trip, as you can quickly see what the places look like using the attached photographs. It gives you idea about the state of the road/track.You might also use google maps to get quick distance estimates between your separate destinations. Good way to start.
