Azerbaijan Border Regulations
 

Hello,

We are planning to travel to Azerbaijan, then sail on from Baku to Kazakhstan in May this year. I have read vague reports about new restrictions (Sep 2014) preventing older (pre 2006) vehicles and those not meeting certain European emission standards, also RHD from entering Azerbaijan, even on temporary importation. With a 20 year old Hilux Surf I'm pretty sure we don't comply!

Does anyone have any recent experience of this or had similar problems?

Hello there,
We crossed with an HRV Honda 15 years old from Georgia to Azerbaijan and from there onward to Iran on a transit 5days visa and except the expected hustle on the border we were fine.Down side Carnet is not valid for Azerbaijan so you have to pay 40 euro or so.As we are planning to do the crossing back from Kazakstan to Azerbaijan on the notorious Ro-Ro boat let us know any feedback.For more info go to Overland Diaries
