Balkans (Suggestions?)

Hello everybody,
I am planning a short trip for the comming September. My starting point is Greece (Thessaloniki) then Bulgaria - Serbia - Montenegro - Albania and again back to Greece. Has anyone been on these countries lately?
All suggestions and tips are very welcomed since it will be my first out of the borders trip.

I will travel on a Honda Varadero 08'

In Bulgaria a stay with Doug, Polly & Ivo at their Motocamp - you can either stay in rooms (if available) or camp with food, wi-fi, beer and excellent hosts.

We stayed there in June and can recommend it 100% - the website is here Moto Camp Bulgaria | MotoSapiense

Me too!

Hi Kostas,

I'm also planning a trip to the Balkans in September: two weeks starting form Switzerland. Albania, Montenegro, Serbia & Kosovo, Croatia, etc. All yet to be decided. If a friend comes from Spain, then probably ferry through Italy. We may even meet. I was about to start a thread, so I'll follow yours.

ANY HIGHLIGHTS? Or general advice for the area (apart from bringing the Green Card!)? Thanks in advance,

Esteban

In Macedonia is a must to see Skopje, Ohrid and prespa lakes. Prespa in less turistic but really beautifull. if your taking varadero then you must take a trail across hills from one lake to another. its gonna be perfect :)

enjoy your trip!

Also, if you like a challenging road with good mountain views in Albania you could take the old road from Kelcyre to Berat (SH74) - not much tarmac.... but a good 70 or so kilometres of fun - mostly 1st & 2nd gear stuff.

I was with strimstrum on this little trip. In Albania there is a nice quiet hotel near Permit, good food, cold beer, clean rooms with air con and en suite The Hotel Nemercka and it’s at N 40.20828 degrees E 20.38855 degrees
We had around 4 beers a bottle of wine evening meal and breakfast and it was around 27 euros for the 2 of us , the bikes are safe out of sight round the back . It,s an isolated place and family run , they haven’t mastered the art of good coffee, yet !!
Just be aware that even though road classifications on the map are the same , the actual conditions vary considerable . The road along the Greek border SH 74 is well worth a ride, bumpy potholed and rippled but a fairly easy ride through some great country side and loads of turrets in the ground. The road strimstrum is on about is the SH74 Permet to Berat, slow and challenging between Kelcyre and Berat . On the SH 4 from Fier to Durres road there are lots of police , dual carriageway and easy tarmac road .

im from montenegro and i advise you to go from serbia via belgrade to zlatibor, then thru tara national park, over visegrad through canyon down to focha, then tjentishte gacko trebinje montenegro , enormously beautiful road scenery, nice tarmac, not long enough one day driving, and then call me in montenegro to give you some more roads
