Best route Hook of Holland to Koblenz

Hi All,
me and a few mates are riding the above 2 June from early morning ferry. We are all on either touring or sports bikes and want to ride interesting roads. Any advice / suggestions would be appreciated.
Doug

The Nurburgring is close to Koblenz and that is definitely 'interesting' !

Otherwise just stay off the motorways - and respect the speed limits in the towns and villages !

Hi Doug
Last year I travelled through this region on the way to Berlin (from Dover/Dunkirk) - stayed at the biker-friendly Vetus Tempus B&B - vetustempus.de - in Neuendorf, Eifelkreis Bitburg-PrĂ¼m - many interesting roads in this area (especially once out of Belgium). Later I went through the Bodensee and Lake Constance area (known as the German Lake District) which is great for biking.

I guess you will be coming from Rotterdam so you could do a little detour via the Harz mountains area which has lots of good roads. While researching this European trip I discovered another biker-friendly place harzbiker.co.uk although I never got there due to atrocious weather - if you want the whole story (nearly the whole story ... never managed to finish it!) have a look at my blog - Moto-Euro Jaunt 2013
another good resource : bestbikingroads.com

Dont agree with the advice about German motorways - you just need to realise that the traffic can move rather quickly! My experience is that German motorists are safe and polite.

Have a great trip
Brian

Everyone seems to rattle on how great Pension Roseneck is, I can't agree. I stayed there several years ago and found the couple unwelcoming and pushy. I do think if you're travelling abroad it's better to stay with locals.

I didn't 'rattle on' all I did was mention the fact that I'd found an establishment that claimed to be biker-friendly - it clearly wasn't a recommendation. Obviously Tourider didn't find it quite so. In that case, perhaps a few that were friendly might be helpful to anybody touring this area?? I'm hoping to go there as part of my next trip later this year.

My route of choice for that trip would be to grit my teeth and take the motorways for the first bit until just past Maastricht and then take the N67 to Eupen - (into Germany) - Monschau - Schleiden - Blankenheim - Nurburgring - Koblenz. That's the old Brits to the Elephant Rally route and a nice ride through the Eifel Mountains. They're not quite the Alps but a nice enough ride all the same.

Many thanks for the replies, time to get on Google maps and sort it all out.
