Bordercrossing Mongolia-Kazakhstan
Hi!
This spring I will go from Mongolia to Europe, think I got my route all planned out except how to get from Mongolia to Kazakhstan. Anyone with a good idea of which road to choose between the two countries? Suppose I have to go through Russia? ..I will be riding a ATV. Any help is most welcome! |
Check out this thread, it may help you: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...an-batar-59665
Colebatch marked the shortest way, but you could always go through Barnaul. |
As Esteban implied, there is no border crossing between Kazakhstan and Mongolia ... in fact there is not even any border between the two countries.
The shortest route (that we know of at this time) is as shown in this post ... With links to high resolution versions of those maps: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...239#post342789 |
That's it. So... no chance to skip the ($$$) Russian visa, if it was the plan :( (or the double entry, depending on the chosen route)
Barnaul is Барнау́л in the map, the big city in the middle. If you get there, it will look like Manhattan after Mongolia... Quote:

Thanx guys!
This info helped me out a lot :thumbup1: Yeah, suppose I have to enter Russia twice and pay up..:( Thinking of going through the north part of Kazakhstan( Pavlodar-Troitsk) and then more or less go straight to Moscow. Do you know any interesting stops/sightseeing along the road if I choose the south road in Mongolia and the north road in Kazakhstan? |

Route in Mongolia
Hi Walter,
The way I see it there are 3 possible routes crossing Mongolia west to UB: 1. North: Tashanta - Ulangom - Moron - UB 2. South: Tashanta - Olgi - Khvod - Altai - Bajanchongor - Arvaikherr - UB or a third alternative, a combination: 3. Tashanta - Olgi - Khvod - Altai - Uliastay - Tosontsengel - Tsetserleg - UB What would be your recommendation? Perhaps another combination of the above? Considering a time-frame of 2 weeks, 2-300 km per day riding and some day for rest. Of course near from the Tashanta border is mandatory to visit the places discovered by timolgra and visited by you last year (Tsengel) :) Many thanks, Adrian Quote:
