Buying a Motorcycle in South America
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone tell me if the fact that I am an Argentinean citizen would be of any use (in terms of paperwork at border crossings) when buying a bike in any other country in South America other than Argentina? I live in Australia and I am planning a trip, possibly starting in Central America, and travelling south to Usuahia. Therefore, would I be able to sale the bike in Argentina at the end of my trip? Or would the bike have to return to the country of origen? Cheers, Fabrizio |
Hey Fabrizio!
I am bolivain and had the same question as you do now. My colombian friend amd I bought two bikes and ride to Colombia arriving in two days. We are selling them in Bogota and realized that is almost impossible. So best is if you take one of the bikes and ride it down to bolivia from Colombia. There in Bolivia all paper work can be transferred to you since the bike was acquired there. Let me know asap. Henrry Facebook; henrry Aramayo Email: henrryaramayo@gmail.com Saludos |
Henrry,
I am no where near South America yet. I'm in Australia still in my planing stages for a trip there. Sorry about the misunderstanding! Un Abrazo! Fabrizio |
But I guess your comment answers one of my questions. That I would have to return the bike to it's country of origin if I want to sell it.

In principle, you can only sell where you bought. Some countries limit the sale by crazy taxes, convoluted paperwork, or simply ban sale of used vehicles outright. My understanding is that Paraguay is probably the only country lax enough that you can sell practically anything. How much would you get is another question... as far as I can tell only country of origin or Paraguay.
