Canadian insurance for a USA resident

Hi,
Crossing the border into Alberta and BC in a few weeks, for about a week, by way of Montana on a rental bike.
Does anyone have recommendations for a company which would offer insurance while in Canada? My USA company does not offer that option.
Thanks for info!
Rick

I'm confused. It's been my understanding that any personal vehicle insurance purchased in the USA is valid for travel anywhere in the USA and Canada. I do recall hearing something about coverage being limited in Canada by some policies--maybe that theft, glass breakage, and collision were excluded. However, I'll say I've never given it any thought when crossing the border, and neither have Canadian local, provincial and federal police when I've been stopped for some reason. FWIW, I've had a vast array of insurance policies on all sorts of vehicles, and I've driven in Canada many scores of times.

Is this your personal insurance, and not the rental company's? Would you consider posting policy details here, including whatever fine print states your policy isn't valid in Canada?

Quite possible the normal policy doesn't include Canada but if you notify them my company (Progressive) send a separate certificate that is acceptable to the Canadian authorities

My policy is through Safeco. If it was my own bike, I wouldn't be concerned, but the rental is a new bike worth over $20k. I went to my agent, who called them and they replied that they do not cover motorcycles out of country. When I lived in San Diego we would buy insurance at the border, more for reasons of not getting thrown in jail in case of any accident.

My personal policy is through Safeco. I would prefer to not use the rental company's insurance, as it is redundant, except for the Canadian part.

Problem solved

Update: My insurance guy found that Progressive WILL cover both the rental bike AND provides coverage while in Canada. Safeco did not provide coverage out of the USA. Again, my concern wasn't about authorities asking for proof of insurance, rather in case something should happen, such as the bike being involved in an accident, that the insurance company would cover the damages to vehicles and/or personal injuries.
Thanks for your input!
Rick

and when you go to Mexico, Progressive have the same deal there (although you have to take out the compulsory Mexican liability insurance as well)
