CAR, DRC and South Sudan routes on a medium size bike (KTM 690)
 

Hello,
I am looking for info on roads (690 KTM bike) ;

CAR/DRC/South Sudan
1. Road from Bangui to Lisala via Gemena, doable in February?
2. Can one hire a motorized canoe from Lisala to Kisangani ?
3. What options for routes from Kisangani to Beni (border with Uganda) or Kisangani to Rwanda?
4. Any motorable route from South Sudan back into the CAR.
a. Juba to DRC/CAR
b. Wau to CAR
5. On maps, there is the RN2 (from Sibut near Bangui to Obot at the border with South Sudan) in CAR which hugs the border with the DRC all the way to the border with South Sudan, is this a figment of a colonial map maker mind?

Why?
Searching for a route from Cameroon across the CAR/DRC to Uganda/South Sudan then loop back to CAR/Cameroon/Chad.

Dunno about any of the rest of it but the road from Garoua Boulai on Cameroon's border with CAR to Bangui is definitely doable with some streches of very good tarred road. Just bring a heap of patience with you for dealing with people in uniforms looking for bribes and "taxes".

Don't know what the condition of this road is but some kind of route definitely exists there, I wanted to do the same route but the Sudanese embassy in Bangui told me I could be waiting 8 weeks to find out if I got a visa or not (and there was a good chance I wouldn't), that was around 18 months ago so things may have changed but it's probably worth getting in touch with them to find out beforehand. Also, parts of that area weren't in government control at that time too so you might want to find out what the current situation is like around there.

Sorry for late reply, not being sure of the likelihood of getting the Sudan visa and not wanting to get bogged down (literally and metaphorically!) in DR Congo I decided to head back to Europe (funds were on a knife edge too). I went to Bossembele and north to the border on the RN1. The CAR side of the border was controlled by rebels for about 40km before you got to the real border. This means going through official CAR crossing and the bureaucracy and attempts at bribes that go with it and then drive through villages and checkpoints controlled by anti-government forces. I wouldn't recommend it but for me at the time they were grand and unlike the official CAR forces weren't trying to rob me blind with some "tax".

We went through the rebel controlled part of the Cote d'Ivoire on a West Africa trip and there was not much difference with the government controlled part.

Anyone has info on Lisala in the DRC?

Possible to hire a motorized canoe to Kisangani from Lisala? Or one has to wait for the famed barges coming from Kinshasha?
