China or Burma 2015/
I am seriously going to Singapore from Manchester UK riding a Honda ANF 125 I know all the drawbacks of riding a small bike this sort of distance not least the extremely small petrol tank but as most of you know it certainly has its advantages as well. my problem is the route The prohibitive costs of china versus the Carnet needed to go through Iran india etc?
Has anyone been both routes? I am thinking the Stans over to China through Laos into Thailand but because I am on a 125cc bike I dread to think what the guide costs will be and because of the engine size I don't think too many riders will consider sharing costs at my pace! The second consideration is it appears I don't need a carnet de passage on the Stans route all the way to Malaysia so the £1500 saved will go a long way towards the cost of crossing China. As well as the costs incurred crossing Burma again increased because of the pace I will be travelling at although I think these costs will be offset somewhat because of the mpg I am expecting from my ANF. Incidentally I haven't purchased the bike yet and currently ride a Honda CM200 twinstar but because of the difficulty sourcing spares for a 30 year old bike it isn't suitable and I have read that the ANF spares are available everywhere. Nothing with this plan is written in stone the only definite things are I am going sometime in 2015 and I will be riding a small step through probably a Honda because of the bulletproof nature of there engines, I will be rough camping a lot, staying at either a hostel or a hotel every third night so I can get a good rest a shower and keep a steady pace of approx. 300miles a day and I am hoping that some of you more experienced long distance travellers will give me the benefit of their experiences and any hints suggestions are very welcome, Also if anybody fancies joining me for any part of the trip please feel free to contact me through here. My dates aren't fixed either but I will be leaving before the end of August to be sure of staying ahead of any adverse weather conditions. Stay Upright Billy |
Hey Man!
Similar route here, Mainland Europe to Sinapore. We had a look doing Iran-Paki-India and where scared of due to all the people being killed... We're looking at doing the stans and joining a group in China. they will bring us from Kirgi to Laos for about 5000-6500 gbp, all inclusive appart from fuel and food. Want to join? |
we may also do laos-bruma-thailand. Burma costing about 2k usd for a 2 week guide tour. If you join we might get them down another few 100...
