Confused, planning a trip
A few simple questions...I think?
1. Leaving Maine to go to South America 4-6mo trip...When to leave planning on september/october next year 2. How to find a shipper in Panama, then Argentina, research and find, or just ride to the airport, docks and ask 3. Speak limited spanish, will this be an issue? 4. How much planning to do, complete route itinerary, or just wing it and hit the major things you want to see. Also, how to keep track of said itinerary, a notebook of stuff, or????? What should be planned specifically? |
Anyone have any suggestions??c?

Probably you can answer these questions--or at least get a solid headstart at answering--by reading through the many, many recent threads on the subject. You'll find posts on costs, schedules, shipping, Spanish language skills, planning.....
I'd check ADV as well. The emphasis is different, but there are often useful threads on the Latin American forum. Hope that helps. Mark |
1. yes, leave.
2. ride and ask 3. no 4. no planning EDIT: just became aware of you sig: "Environmental Conservation before Riding Pleasure." you'd be not wanting to turn your motorcycle on then?!?! get a bicycle.... |
Yeah, yeah very funny, at least I ride a KLR, the humble tractor of the motorcycling world, 50mpg and will burn pretty much whatever you put in it. Can't say that for those consumerist fancy euro bikes, all luxury, electrics and hate anything under 89 octane. At least the KLR has a smaller production footprint :tt2:

I haven't done any US but it's on the backburner!
Read Dan Walshs account of his travels. He has done US to Central & South America. Also Ted Simons book is interesting too. All the advice is that a little Spanish makes your life a whole lot easier and don't do too much planning. Take your directions from other travellers on the road. Armchair advice for what it's worth! Enjoy! |
