A few of us from the UK are planning to ride a bike (hopefully a Ural + sidecar) down the frozen river Ob (from Salechard to Surgut) in February and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the following...

How frozen is the Ob at this time of year? Is it used as a road for trucks / cars /bikes? And if so in what months?

Is is possible for a foreigner to buy a bike in Russia?

Is there anyone who lives in either of those towns who might be interested in getting involved with this mission?
