DRIVING ACROSS NORTH AFRICA
 

I am planning a driving trip to thailand, Sound mad i know but i am looking for advice. I am planning to go from marocco across the top of north africa the cross the suez in my van. Any advice please?

I think you might find the Morroco/Algeria boarder is closed.

you are right ChrisK. the border is still closed between Algereia and Morocco .
the best option is : Tunisia , Libya , Egypt .
i can assist you concering the Libyan part.

as i see , the Moroccan algerian borders are closed , but you can do Morocco, Muritania, Algeria ,Tunisia , Libiya then Egypt.

I'm hoping to drive across north Africa, from Algiers across and up to Turkey and beyond, next summer. Getting a Libyan visa is so far proving the most difficult part. Any help would be much appreciated.

North Africa Traverse
 

like christianphotoman, i am planning a North Africa traverse. have seen that Maroc-Algerian border is closed, but since i want to start in Maroc, was going to ship self and bike to Marseilles and then back to Algeria and continue.

This is being planned for winter/spring 07, maybe two months or so.

i've been reading the extensive posts on this area and the problems, but wondering if anyone who lives in London can meet with me to share their experience and wisdom. I'll be in London from mid Dec to end Jan and would appreciate any face to face time with anyone out there.

of course, will be happy to hear from anyone who is anywhere else in the world, too.

This is an expensive way of doing it; it may well be cheaper to ride back up through Spain. Just did the Mars-Alg ferry (in a car) and it is not cheap.

sorry this reply is so late; thanks for your above. sounds like you've done at least part of what i want to do.

since I was going to do the transit in late winter/early april before heat sets in, i wanted to avoid riding down thru europe from UK -- where i was figuring to get my bike. any thoughts appreciated on this.

I'm contemplating a similar route this time next year and hoped someone could elaborate on which boarder crossings you would use and the difficulty of such a route as it would be our first time in the Saharah: would we be biting off more than we could realistically expect to chew?

i am intending to stick to the coast, partly due to war issues in Southern Algeria (see http://www.triotours.com/faq/dz/index.htm for much info on many of the countries) and problems of independent travel down there.

i'll be in London mid dec to end jan; want to get together and talk about this?
