East side of the Med...and Cairo storage?
Friends,
Forgive the cross posting. I'm heading out from Rome on the 26th of May. I will travel to Greece - Turkey - Syria - Jordan - Egypt. Couple of questions: - First of all, if anyone's in the region then, let me know and let's connect. - How long did it take to go from Istanbul to Cairo (or anywhere near) at a leisurely riding pace? - Tips and hidden gems (place to eat, stay, visit, AVOID) most welcome. - Any security issues? - Finally, I'm hoping to find a safe and secure place to leave my bike in Cairo for a few months until I can return to it and continue the journey. Any thoughts? Many thanks. Tony |
Send an email to the Egypt HUBB community and they can probably help you out with storage and some nice rides. There was a good bunch of long term expat KTM riders based in downtown Cairo who were really helpful to me (this was in 2005 - not sure if they are all still around).
Istanbul to Cairo is possible in a week, but I would allow at least three weeks to get through Jordan and Syria as there are some great things to see. Damascus is a great city worth several days. Crak de Chevaliers in Syria and Petra in Jordan are definate musts. If you like the desert, Wadi Rum in Jordan is also worth a few days. Also budget on spending a few days trying to clear your bike through Egyptian customs. cheers |
Thanks!
Matt,
