Entering Vietnam with Foreign Vehicles
Hi All,
Does anyone have any recent information on entering Vietnam with Foreign vehicles. As I have seen this article (Sunday, August 23,2009) Vietnam prepares to allow all foreign vehicles in - Related news - 8/23/2009 - SaigonTimes English Is it now possible to apply for a entry permit? Has anyone personal experience of doing it? Grateful for any info people might have. David |
Maybe you can
Hi David,
look at the link below, he did it with the Vespa registered in Italy ( with Carnet de passage) Percitour.com .: in Vespa dall'Italia al Giappone - Part 2 ( if you open it wit Google Chrome, you can translate it) You should leave the bike at the boarder, get some big city and ask a permission ( I really don't have more info about wich office can give you the paper, but at the boarder they can say you everything). He did it from to the northern boarder with Laos, and he got the "special permission" in Hanoi; I was in Laos and Cambodia in December, but I don't had enought time for enter Vietnam...I spoke with many peoples that I met on the road and all them had the same idea: the Vietnam customs (at the boarder) are confused a lot....you should try to get the boarder and try to enter! I got Laos ( from Thai), in Chang Kong boarder, and anybody asked me the carnet, the same day my friend did the same from Vientiane boarder and the carnet was required... This is the funny Asia!!!!! May be
Hi Matteo,
Thanks for the link. The translation is not brilliant, but I got the gist of what was going on. Not sure he got the permit the paper article was talking about through. However the border customs do seam very confused. Carnet one time and then not another??? He might have got away with it as he was riding a scooter. However I'm going to be driving a Land Rover, so could be a different story. I'm going to try e-mailing the Vietnam Tourist and Culture department mentioned in the article as see if they can confirm.
