Far East info
Hi People, next year (end Aug/start Sep) I hope to 'do' the old Far East of my misspent youth. To that end, would it be simpler all round from the border crossing paperwork point of view to fly to Hanoi, buy a bike there and then bimble south or fly into KL, buy a bike there and then head north. As the trip timetable is going to be around 8/9 months I know I'm going to get one if not both monsoons but it will still be better than the Scottish winter. Ride safe.

Has nobody gone out to the far east, bought a bike then toured around? What an honour, to be the first. Ride safe.

Vietnamese registered bikes, it seems, can go outside VN, and return, but others have a very slim chance to get into VN at all. But on the other hand, your choice of bikes in VN is likely to be very limited compared to Thailand for example. Sorry I'm not so familiar with the bike market in Malaysia.

Ah so there is life out there, thanks for the info, it is looking more like a case of buy in KL and treat VN as a country to ride around by leaving the Malay bike at the border and renting a tiddler in the first town I walk/limp into. Ride safe.
