Go or No-Go - Germany to India in April/May

Hello community.

Im currently brainstorming about a Motorcycle trip from South Germany to India via Balkan, Turky, Iran and Pakistan. Is that doable/advisable in 2 month and at this time of the year? Would it be better to ride from India to Germany?

Regards
Markus

Hi Mr. Markus and welcome,
It is entirely doable in that time and not the worse time of year although September-October would be better.
I would say Germany to India would be better just because it can take some time to get your bike out of customs in India if you ship there while the clock is ticking but riding the other way is also possible at that time of year.

If you plan to do any mountainous routes bear in mind they will be pretty cold and in some cases impassable outside the summer months.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the answer and the welcome. That's a point I don't know about. Can you give me some details how long this would take?

Hello Senior. I am planning to go over East Anatolia which means passes above 2000 meter. That's pretty cold but doable. The rest of the trip will be warmer and in lower height.

If you mean how long to get your bike out of customs it can vary between a day or two and a week or two, it is probably getting better now but riding there and shipping back is more predictable especially if you have a recommended shipper before you arrive there, out of Mumbai would probably be best.

I am not sure what ta-rider is refering to but a carnet will be needed for Iran, Pakistand and India which you can get from the ADAC without a problem.
