good time to start planning Visa and Carnet??

I have 6 months left in Australia before the big ride home, when should i begin planning Visas and Carnet for Asia, India, Pakistan, Iran and Turkey is it a case of organising now or can you get Visas on the borders, realising i dont know enough i need to knuckle down and do some research.

Thanks in Advance
Ben

Well, generally you cannot pre purchase a visa more than 3 months out from when it will be used.

You need the carnet to be current so as close to set off date as possible.

Your visa will need to be bought as you go, if you have two passports(good idea to get concurrent ones) then it is easir as it won't slow your travel

Turkey is buy visa at the border, you won't need a carnet, same with SEA. Thailand prefers a carnet, but not really needed

Indonesia requires the carnet. Malaysia, when crossing by land from Thailand, seems very relaxed about it, but if you for example ship the bike into Malaysia, then it could be different. Officially it´s in the carnet system. And Thailand is not.

If planning to take your bike to India, then you´re certainly going to need the carnet, highly likely you will need it for Pakistan as well.

You will definitely need a CDP for India, Pakistan, Iran, you will not be allowed to enter your bike without one. Also your visa for Pakistan/India you will need to take in your home country before you leave ( 3 mths should be possible ), India visa you can also obtain in Bangkok. Be aware that if you ship the bike Bangkok-Calcutta/Chennai it can take several weeks to obtain release from local customs officers if you do not 'grease the wheels'.
