How much gas for Africa
I am planning my RTW trip and didn't go to Africa for years, I was wondering what should be a reasonable mileage autonomy for my bike , I am a bit worry about the Sahara, we will be 2 up if that make any difference.(not able to carry a 5Gallon of gas on the pillon seat)

I'm leaving from France for Cape Town in less than a year, 6 months trip, also riding two-up on a KTM 990 Adventure with my girlfriend :thumbup1:
From stock I have a maximum fuel range of 350km. I would like to have 450-500km (which means 300km off-road). I'll probably add an additionnal 8 or 9L tank. If I make a two-in-one exhaust I'll have some space left under the seat in the rear as on the rallye bikes. I hope it will be enough :mchappy: |
It depends on your route...
If you start in Egypt the longest bit is from Wadi Halfa to Dongola (400km “offroad” ) so it’s possible to do it with a 400km range. There might be petrol available in the villages along the Nile. A short range will decrease your chances in getting away from the main track, so personally I prefer at least 600km range. |
How much gas for Africa
Thanks for the reply, I guess we are still pretty much in the same condition that we were years ago , I wil based my gas on a 500 KM range in average ,is that still good for Sahara or should I go more 600+ KM.Since we will be 2 up I will pretty much stay on road or pist but will stay away from off road.

500 km will be enough for the eastern route.
