Indian - Chinese border
I am riding from India back home to the UK. As I am unable to obtain a Pakistan visa I will have to book a tour guide from Nepal to Krygystan but I have been told this will cost £8K and take 3 weeks which is out the question. Is the border open from Kashmir to China yet? Has anyone undertaken a similar journey recently?

I might be wrong bur are there any open border crossings at all between Jammu and Kashmir and China?
According to Wikipedia no: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cate...rder_crossings Edit - there seems to a connecting road between Jammu and Kashmir and Tibet (aka China) not far from the village of Demchok but according to Wikipedia it is currently closed https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cate...rder_crossings |

Look at flying yourself and the bike ... ask the shipper where would be cheapest that is not Pakistan nor China. |
Why can't you get a Pakistan visa? If it was possible I would travel through Northern Pakistan and then cross from Sost, through China (via Kashgar) and then into Kyrgyzstan.

The only entry in India from China is via Nepal. There is no connectivity in Jammu Kashmir from china side.

I would not advise to send your passport back to UK, unless you have a second one, and even then it is difficult to get the passport back into India.
It would be much safer, and apparently cheaper (compared to the 8K pounds) to fly to UK for the Pakistan visa. Yes it is crazy like that. We had a nice time in Pakistan, but it is a bit rough, and I would recommend not to travel alone as a woman, even though it might not be an issue. (I know two women who drive through with their car, didn't have too much issues except for "but where is your husband?") Maybe you can find a group that is going from Nepal to Kirghistan? If there would be such a group? But then you would be able to share costs. That is assuming Nepal-China border is open now and you can find other people (try posting in Travellers seekings travellers section. |
I have the same worry. I hope to get a Pakistani visa on the border when I return from India towards Europe. I can arrange one before I leave for the first passage through Pakistan, but on the way back it might be a problem, and a multiple entry won't be valid long enough. Let's hope the new rule for giving out visa on arrival for tourists via a travel agency is going smoothly.
