Italy to Asia (China or elsewhere)
Hello everyone!
I am new here, just found this great website! Anyway, I need a change, a big one, and decided to goo seeking some adventure and fun on the road to Asia. My plan is the following: quitting my job, subrenting my house, kiss hello to my family and friends and leave from northern Italy (I live in Milan) direction East. Wherever the wind blows. Or the bike bring me. Now, this is a long trip, difficult, dangerous and might turn out to be more than I can handle, but at least I want to give it a shot. I’d like to spend the winter fine tuning my bike (I ride an old BMW k75, and if you think I’m crazy you’d better say it clear and loud before I do any further step), preparing my gears, getting infos about the roads and stuff and leave around the beginning of April. Ideal route would be ferry to Greece, then Turkey, Siria, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Myanmar, and then I’ll see. Now it’s up to you: I need a lot of help here, thoughts, wishes and so on. Has anyone here ever done something like this before? Or do you know anyone? Please help me! This is very important to me!! thanks a lot in advance! Bless from heavens Marco |
Hi,
great to hear you want to do that! Plenty people on this forum have travelled all across Asia - on all kinds of bikes, for very long or very short time periods, etc.. I myself have completed my first big trip to Kyrgyzstan and back this summer. For this we spent 10 months of planning and it turned out great! I think that also for you it is a good idea to take a lot of time and effort to prepare - once you are on the road, every hour you spent on planning will pay back! You are on a very early stage of planning I guess, so it is probably difficult for anyone to give specific advice. The best thing you can do right now is read, read, read, read through the HUBB and other forums to get information about the countries you want to cross. Each country is very unique (landscape, culture, visa constrains, safety, etc.) and you should learn about all of them to reasonably plan your route and possibly adjust it. A very important factor to us was the huge different in the amount of money and organizational effort needed to get into some countries. Some of them are easy as pie, others might cost a fortune and a lot of your nerves because of very much paperwork. So right now the only advice can be: Read, read, read - there is way too much to say about all these countries to lay it out in this thread :). If you have any specific questions -> This is a very helpful community! PS: With "Siria" you meant Iran, right?! :) |

You can't be serious about Syria unless you have been living on the moon for the last few years... Better go through Iran. BTW I'm planning about the same journey but think to leave in August so we won't meet. Have a great time preparing your bike and trip. I'm in the same process. It is fun but still a lot to do. bier |

I'm in Trento and heading East in April 2016. Send me a PM and we can discuss. We can also meet in person if you have free time. Cheers, Ray |
