Hi Fabrizio,
I'm doing the same trip but shipping the bike back from Korea after Japan. I will be approaching Vladivostok about 12th to 14th July. Like you, I am waiting for news of the DBS ferry. The Temporary Import Permit seems to be no problem from what I have read. I am going through the Ukraine into Russia and joining the Trans Siberian Highway after Chelyabinsk. What route are you planning? |
Hi
I will start from Genova Italy 19th May I want to ride to Baltics and get in Russia from Latvia, after Moscow I will follow the transiberian railway I hope there will be the ferry line to japan and I want also back to Italy with my motorcycle which is a Electra Glide Harley Davidson. Do you have Instagram so we can keep in touch for all ? Inviato dal mio iPhone utilizzando Tapatalk |
Hi, we did that in 2018 with a campervan.
Without Carnet, just using C5014 temporary import. And then shipped out of Kawaski harbor back to Europe. We didn't want to drive back, it would be quite boring and while in Japan, winter had arrived. You can checkout our route on www.lovetheworld.nl |

I sometimes read stuff about the DBS Ferry not operating anymore. If that is true you have to find another way to get into Japan. Perhaps there is an option via South Korea. It could be that a boat from South Korea to Japan (Kyushu) is still operating. I would check your options to make it a one way trip. It could be more fun (since you will have more time) and cheaper. |

The problem is how to get to S Korea from Russia ? I need a Ro/Ro I have no time to wait a container and get a fly |
I'm in Japan
Hi all, Last Check the ferry from S.Korea to Japan still runs. There is a Ferry that goes from Russia to Japan but I believe it is via S. Korea.
Ther use to me a car ferry from Hokkaido to Russia but that stoped a few years back now only a people ferry. Summer is a great time to ride in Japan, well any time is actually. :) If you have ny questions drop a line and I will answer what I can.:scooter: |
Hi thank you
Can you tell me the name of the ferry company ? |
It's Camellia line from Busan to Fukuoka for vehicles.
But like you, the issue for me is Russia to Japan or South Korea. |

Hi Fabry,
I really wouldn't recommend the third quarter of the trans siberian in winter. Have a look at the average temps in that area for the winter months. I drove trucks in Russia for 5 years after the Wall came down and while the roads are mostly better now, the temperatures are not. In -50 things don't work, bearings fail, plastics snap etc etc. I have permanent nerve damage in my hands from trying to fix things in extreme cold. I'm not saying it can't be done - just that the likelihood of your bike getting to Vlad is small. The next problem is the late Autumn and early Spring. It's warmer but the wet and the dirt combine to make driving really tricky and that's on 4 or more wheels rather than two. Each vehicle is driving along in it's own mud cloud. One winter, I went back onto a weighbridge after jet washing the chassis and underside of the truck and it was just under 1 tonne lighter..... Sorry, I'm being a bit doom and gloom here - just got back from work and jumped straight on this. It can be done. |
Various RELATIVELY RECENT details on ferries (from Russia, to SK) as well as paperwork (TIP) here
https://www.madornomad.com/guides/asia/japan/ Or https://motorcycleparadise.net/2016/...wo-wheels.html In any case it is unlikely to get to Japan before 2022 - I arrived by ferry in summer of 2019 and left my bike over winter and have been covid blocked since and am in constant contact with Japanese Customs office regarding the status of my TIP. |
Thank you i want travel italy Vladivostok for 2021 and again with japan 2022
