Izmir Turkey to London

Due to circumstances beyond our control I'm totally revamping our holiday plans. Now looking at shipping my trusty Tiger over from Oz.

Possible 2 options to send to, Izmir Turkey (April 2009) or Felixstowe UK (May 2009)

So what I am asking is:
1) What is the best route to take from Izmir to the UK, this is a super broad question I know but I am interested to hear peoples views.

2) Are there countries we would travel through that we would need to organise visa's (Oz citizens Oz passports).

This will do for starters
Cheers
Wilky

Just thought I'd mention a less obvious option. It is pretty easy to get from Izmir across to Spain using ferries and doing a bit of riding in between through Greece and Italy (in 3 or 4 days) or you can stretch it out and take in Athens, Venice, Rome, Florence etc if this is your bag.

I did this route about a month ago (ferry Izmir-Chios, ferry Chios-Piraeus(Athens), ride Athens-Patras, ferry Patras-Ancona, ride Ancona-Livorno (Pisa), ferry Livorno-Barcelona.

But personally I would ride around Turkey for a month before going anywhere - it may well be the best part of your trip - just budget for seriously expensive petrol. On the other hand, insurance is 10 Euro for 3 months.

In case you didnt know, Izmir is a couple of hours ride south of the Gallipoli beaches, which might be of interest as ANZAC day is in April.

Izmir

:thumbup1:no competition between shipping to England or Turkey, it must be Izmir. then you have 2 great options .
1. Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, England.
2. Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Belgium, England.
obviously there are many options of route you can choose dependent on time interests, including adding other countries such as Italy, Kosovo, Bosnia, Switzerland, France, Poland, etc.
Hope this gives you some ideas Andy

Istanbul to Middle England is 2000 miles,
Can be a relaxing ride across the continent to Calais, the cheap ferry to Dover.

Just drop me a PM for anyhing you might need here in Izmir. A bunch of HU people still recall the beers and rides we had in this "beautiful and lonely country"*

Izmir, the Gallipoli penninsula, Istanbul, round the Black sea to the Danube and use this ancient and modern travel route as a basic route plan dodging off to whatever takes your fancy. This will take you through Bulgaria, Rumania, Hungary, Slovak Republic, Czech republic Austria and Germany and that is just for starters. Then come to Scotland. Ride safe.
