Japan Entry conditions
 

Hello,
I want to enter the end of August 2014 from Russia to Japan.
What should I do with my bike at the entry into Japan?
I drive a Honda, have all international documents and a carnet?

There is a bit of an issue with Germany-registered bikes, but it is not a big problem if you don't ask too many questions.

Well, Chris "the all-mighty" already gave you some answers.

To add just a little:

if you are willing to accept some risks there should be no big problem. If you want to "follow" another fellow-biker you will experience quite some difficulties. It can be done and has been done in the past by numerous German bikers without going thru the "official b.s.".

pls have a look here on the Hubb for more information about entering Japan, as my friend Chris "the all-mighty on entering Japan by bike" suggested.

Chris helped me in the year 2000 to get my bike into Japan, he did a great job and I am still thankful today. Even the problem that the Russian sailors created, not willing to unload my bike in Fushiki, was solved in two minutes.

I dont know what he means with an issue about German registration, but for sure you will find it on the Hubb, and you will manage.

I would recommend entering at Wakkanai, in Hokkaido. The ferry is MUCH cheaper than the ferry from Vladivostok. The price has gone up so much in the past few years.

Germany signed the 1968 treaty on road transportation, and Japan signed the 1949 treaty. Nobody at JAF knew about the difference in 2000, but then they discovered the difference later. Now they will tell you that you need to register the bike in Japan. This is impossible for a traveler. See the thread linked to in my other post if you want to know about the issue.

And don't call me all-mighty guys!! (Is this a German torture method??) :confused:

If I were all-mighty, I would fix all the bureaucratic BS that makes it difficult for travelers.

Hello Chris, yes the Germans were famous for torture, but now another nations people are more famous for it. We had an all-mighty some time ago, as you know, but dont think he signed this treaty in 1968, but still some believe that he still lives in Argentina today. Dont worry about us calling you the all-mighty, it is a joke that only Germans understand, and for sure it is nothing negative about you. And dont mention the war ... :nono:

Thanks for the helpful information. I'm still in Armenia and now want to enter Iran. My Russia visa expires on 08/30/2014.

How is the quality of the line from Khabarovsk until after Vanino? Everything Offroad? Many rivers?

I would be happy to meet you in Japan. My visa for Russia ends on 08/31/2014. Do you live in the north or in the south of Japan? I am stay on Tehran still.
