Hi,
Does anyone know of how much range i should have on my bike to travel Kazakhstan and Mongolia... Is there enough fuel stations on the way, or do you have to carry extra fuel.. Thanks |
Kazakhstan and Mongolia.. How much fuel range do i need...
Hi
It will depend on the route. Kaz has fuel nearly every 100km or so but not always the best fuel. The state run fuel was about 200km apart and that was taking the top road from entering in Ural to Almaty Mongolia is a whole different kettle of fish. I can recall some places where the fuel station was empty or totally shut down and the max I did was 440km, lucky my Vstrom has that range as I took no extra |
Thanks for the help..
I think i will have to carry alittle extra. |
My experience is a bit less than 440.
300 km is fine with good info on where the fuel stations are. Often remote stations may look shut or closed or run down ... some operate certain hours of the day. Some you need to wait for a nearby villager who runs the village fuel depot to come out and open up the pumps. I have crossed the country with a fuel range of just 250 km on one occasion. I recommend you have a look at the waypoints file in the Northern Asia section. Many fuel stations are marked on there and will give you an idea of range required depending on your route ... or what route you require for a given range. To play it safe, I would give yourself a range of 350 km in Mongolia. |
In Kazakhstan there is a 420km stretch of road between Aral & Aktobe with no petrol. we carried 8 liters of spare but managed to make it riding conservatively under 80kph on the decent road on our 16 liter stock tank (800GS). petrol stations in general were not plentiful - we did the route from Ural to Shymkent.
