kuwait to uk routes through iran/turkey???
hi I am planning a trip home to the uk (newcastle) from kuwait, not sure when because I'm on an ongoing work contract, I think maybe april/may next year, I just need some info about routes to take and places to see/avoid on the way
my rough idea for now is: get ferry from kuwait to iran, then by road to turkey, then maybe bulgaria or greece, not sure after that but would like to visit croatia, then whichever route takes my fancy back home I have toured europe before so have a rough idea where i want to go at that side of things... what areas should I avoid in iran? what is the best time of year to go? thanks for any help Lee :scooter: |
I didn't know there is a ferry between Kuwait and Iran. Be sure to post the relevant info here on HUBB.
Zahedan and anywhere along the Afghan border is probably a little unsafe, but I don't think the police will let you go there anyway. In 2007 there was quite a bit of petty crime in Yazd and I guess that applies to other tourist centres as well, but that is a guess. Overall Iran is a very safe country, apart from the appalling driving. Spring and autumn should be good, summer is very hot and winter below freezing in most places. I loved it. Routes: get a guide book and pick where you want to go. As far as riding goes I liked the road from the coast to Shiraz over the Zagros range. The big Q is: can you get a visa? |
from kuwait to uk
just came from a trip on my RT1200 BMW.
started on 28th of may for 50 days here is my route: From kuwait to KSA Hafr albatin 160 km from there to Arar 600 km and then to Turaif 285km. After that 160 km to the borders of Saudia/Jorden-Alomari Then from there to Alazrag ,Almafraq then to the Syrian Border-ALRAMTHA. Cross the border and go to Damasqus 110 km. then to Latakyia via Tartuos dont go to Alabo (from Damasqus to Latakyia 420 km). From there to Kasab which is 5 km to the turkish border. Then crossing the border to Yalydge -Antalyia-ADANA-Aksary-Ankara-Isanbul- ipsala then the borders with Greece.Ipsala- kavala-thessalunic-Igmountisa take feery to Ancona Italy. From Ancona u have alot of choices to get to UK. This route is better then going through Iran, it is longer but it is safer and much easier. If u have any questions u can call me on my cell Phone- 66767658 |
Long Road to Mecca
Hi,
To date I have completed two-thirds of my rtw trip from Kuwait to Mecca via kuwait, Iran Pakistan,China Alaska, canada, USA England France Switzerland, Italy,Sicily Tunisia,Libya Egypt, Saudi (Mecca..) You can catch a ferry from Shuwaikh in Kuwait either to Khorramsher or Busher, both in Iran. I opted for Khorramsher and paid approx 270KWD on a passenger ferry. The bike was loaded onto the ferry the night beofre and the following morning I took the 4 hour ferry across to Khorramsher. But beware that customs are generally shut on a Thursday afternoon and all day friday, and thus I lost nearly 3 days of my 7 day transit visa as it took a good part of Saturday to clear my bike out of customs and cost me approx $100 for local help in clearing the bike. They also did not seem to be that clued up about my Carnet. In retrospect, it may be better to enter at Busher. Hope this helps H A |
