libya & algeria
is libya open to travellers WITHOUT an accompanying guide? some say yes, others no. and what about Algeria, we know nothing about it. Can we get from Egypt to Morrocco via these two countries?

Libyan transit visa doesn't require a guide always as a travel companion of mine in Tunisia obtained one in Tunis. I'm not sure if you can do so in Egypt...embassies/consulates oddly enough interpret policies differently.
Algeria in the north, guide is not required. In the South, its obligatoire. Crossing between Morocco and Algeria is not an option as the official borders are closed. Getting to Morocco from Algeria may be possible via a European intermediary...France/Spain... I was there in February 2007 so things may have changed since then. PS. Egyptian carnet is difficile/expensive just to warn you... HTH |
