Libya to Sudan?
Planning an East Africa trip for the beginning of 2014. I've seen so much on these forums about the routes so I assume that Tunisia into Libya is a good way to go, still? but can I miss Egypt and go straight into Sudan?
I've had a quick look on Google and it seems there's what looks like towns and airports etc, not sure if that's mainly for the oil companies? so again assume that there are roads heading that way. We don't have much off road experience so if it's going to be more than a bit of a struggle we'll go the easier option! Thanks in advance! |
Only by taking dangerous smugglers' routes direct from Libya to Sudan, or by taking even more dangerous routes through NE Chad.
Where I would love to go but am chicken to go. Charlie |
Thanks Charlie,
mmm that sounds about as much fun as eye surgery with a fork. I'd had some advice from the home office but as usual it's all doom and gloom from those folks. I guess it will have to be the ferry into Egypt then. Thanks again Carl |
There is the possibility of driving to Sudan by then http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...pt-sudan-63126 Don't hold your breath though. Dispite the hassle I remember the ferry on lake Nasser as being one of the most magical moments of my trans-Africa trip, waking up on the deck as the sun comes up over the lake with groups of men prostrating themselves towards Mecca is fairly exotic.
