Little trip to St Davids in Wales, what route should I take?

Hi all,
I'm meeting up with some friends at the end of November at St Davids in Wales. I've decided to take the bike, and make the most of the journey there from Milton Keynes. Does any one have a route they could recommend? I want to avoid motorways, and I was thinking about cutting through the Cotswolds/Brecon Beacons. Which roads/villages are nicest to ride through?
Thanks :)

I cannot recommend a particular route but suggest you buy Michelin map 503 Southwest England and Wales and plan your route around the scenic roads marked in green, always works for me.

St David's is a lovely area (I have particularly fond memories of a week in Dale, just down the coast :innocent:).

You could probably get there from MK along cart tracks or similar but assuming you want to get there in one day I'd suggest MK - Buckingham - Aynho - Chipping Norton - Stow - Gloucester - then either the A40 to Ross on Wye or the scenic detour there via Newent. After that the A40 to Abergavenny - Brecon etc to Haverfordwest and finally the A487 to St Davids.

There are some great detours you could take - the Gospel Pass from Abergavenny to Hay for example, but even without that it'll be a five or six hour ride and that's about as much daylight as you'll have at the end of Nov.
