Map Scales
 

Hi Guys,

Only a few weeks away from departing round Africa now - thinking in more detail about the maps.

Going to plan on the hoof rather than make detailed plans in advance.

To save weight, space (important!) and money was thinking about this map: Africa West: Coastal Countries: Reise Know-How Verlag - Regional Road Maps & Atlases from Stanfords

For £10 it covers the same countries that to buy individually would cost £100. Don't plan to go "hardcore off road" but do plan to not stick to the major routes all the time.

However at 1:2,220,000 isnt' exactly the best scale, I think it might be too small. 1cm = 13 miles.

What maps did people use when traversing that part of the world? I may end up with some hybrid solutions. I.e. if a good quality 1:500,000 alternative is availible then use that if a low quality 1:1,000,000 is the alternative skip it and use the above map.
