Mauri, :Guelb er Richat, in 2wd ? + kids
Hi,
I would be most grateful to anyone with any experience of driving from (Eastern Mauritainia) Atar, Chinguetti, Quadane, to the Guelb er Richat. Is there an alternative to driving 500 miles east to the Guelb and then having to return down same road ? (Heading south to the Gambia) Also anyone with any experience of driving in Mauritainia with children (13,8)and east of the Atlantic route. Although 2wd, its a 505 estate, so we are hoping reasonably capable and hopefully locally repairable ! Intending to be there in Jan. Any suggestions or anecdotes, would be gratefully received. Tim |
Hi,
IIRC, the piste from Oudane to Richat is very sandy and not suitable for 2WD (except the 2CV van these guys used: http://www.takla-makane.com/ (French, but some great routes). I think you'd struggle the last bit in a 505, but the rest should be fine, as it's just dirt roads with the exception of some soft sandy spots in Chinguetti. You're not missing much at Richat...
