Morocco - Have you used these roads ?

Hi
we are off on a tour of Maroc in April 2008 - i wondered if anyone can confirm or give a thumbs up to the following :thumbup1:
1. Travelling from Ceuta to Tanger my map shows a motorway under construction which will link with the main North to South one on the coast - is it finished yet ?
2.Has anyone used the R108 - it joins the N9 just north of Zagora and leads to Erfoud . If so is the tarmac ok for sports bikes ? If not then i guess we will have to stretch it out a bit and go via Vallee du Dades :cool4:
Thanks

We used the R108 and the N12 in May. Apart from the odd pothole it was tarmac all the way and a much nicer road to travel on than the N10.

WHY ceuta

Why not go direct to Tangier? Good harbor and customs wasn't too bad. Janet and I were in Morocco for the month of February 07 and of the 30 countries we have visited so far, Morocco was ont of the top four. You are going to have such a good time there.

Maroc motorway

Chris , why even bother thinking about a motorway which will likely be toll anyway ? You will just be rushing through a channel of new development unable to adequately take in the scenery. Last summer I did the ride from Ceuta to Tanger and then down along and slightly inland from the coast using nothing but the older two-lane highways and had a marvelous time and never felt held back or threatened by any traffic even wending through Casablanca and other big cities. .All the while I had the opportunity to sightsee in every little town or roadside feature that struck my fancy. Not likely on motorways.

Hi Chris

I was in maroc xmas before last. I'll dig out my map and have a look for you next week if you're still interested. I'm based in Shoreham

chris gale 20 Oct 2007 20:37

would be very intrested on any info you have - i live in Horsham so can meet half way if you like ( coffee on me ) :cool4:
Unfortunately its the M/way on the first day - we want to get to rabat pdq , we only have a week in Maroc and my mate wants to do shedloads , so this time round im afraid it will be a rapid tour .
we thought about tangier but have heard all sorts of horror stories so decided on ceuta - unless you know different :confused1:

Chris,

I travelled between Zagora and Erfoud last May, a good route is the Dades valley (N10) as you can then ride up the Dades Gorge and the Todra Gorge, really fantastic scenery. There's a nice place to overnight at the top of the Todra Gorge called the Auberge des Amis.
There are some fantastic roads with little or no traffic so you can really enjoy some great riding....
I'll get my log book, roadbook and maps out if you interested..

With amount of replies im getting im begining to think that a month might be easier rather then a week :scooter:

unfortunately a week it is - its basically a taster to see if id be happy "guiding" people around there when i retire  Next trip will be Ukraine - have done all the Alps and war site bits so am looking to offer something a little bit different and CHEAP !! Keep organising hols for friends so figure i should charge for it having nearly collapsed when i met some bikers who were on an MSL trip and told me what they had paid :eek3:
I guess this means i might have to pay you royalties for your info :thumbup1:
