Motorcycle tour planning through the Alps
I would like to plan a 3 or 4 day bike tour through the alps and the passes, but I don't know where to go to find a planner or planning aid. Can anyone out there give me a hand? Thanks

A good "bible" is a book by an American, John Hermann, who has spent over twenty years riding and detailing over 270 passes
The book is "Motorcycle Journeys through the Alps and Corsica" It has a list in decending height order at the back, and over the last two summers I managed to "bag" 25 so far The Grossglockner in June 2004 was 28c at the base and -1c and snowing at the summit. The De-Stelvio was closed du to avalanche damage, so I had to go back in 2005, when it was 34c in July, but a nice cool 24c at the top :-) I can recommend a good hotel near Bolzano, the owner is a keen motorcyclyst, and he took a group of 10 of us on fantastic roads that you would never find without local knowledge he has also produced a roadbook with 27 tours in the Dolomites. The food is also excellent http://www.motorrad-hotel.com/new/start.php?site=home Hotel Mondschein |
