Nepal to UK Routes?

Hey Guys,

Looking at riding from Nepal to London from October 2010 time, any good routes to take?

Cheers,
Pete

The two main routes are first to Pakistan, then either north to China & the Stans, or west towards Iran.

But around the end of October the Karakoram Highway (overland route to China) is probably closed because of winter... and you might also have problems with freezing weather in western Iran & eastern Turkey. Especially the latter can become a real obstacle for bikers, so leaving a few weeks earlier might be good, if you can do that. You´ll also need a carnet to get to India and probably Pakistan as well.

thanks mate.

I am keen for the pak,iran,turkey.... route.

I have hearts and tears bike club of nepal waiting for my go ahead to order abike from them, but want to get the carnet sorted first and visas, how do you commit to the carnet and the bike order and not get the visas or vice versa! aahhh! :)

I suggest you tackle the PAK and Iran visas first, because they are quite hard to get now, especially if you are British.

Overland through Nepal

what are the entry/exit options for Nepal? we will be driving from the west and heading into china and on to laos.
can you enter from india/pak and exit into china?

From India it should be possible to cross to Nepal.

But from there to China(Tibet) and Laos...... you sure you´ve got that bit really well sorted out??

nepal to uk routes

Currently looking at your 'routes north of caspian sea' and from nepal via lhasa and kunming into laos.
by 'well sorted' due you mean travel/border difficulties out of nepal or the cost of travelling through china?

Note, that the routes inside China were marked as red... think I should´ve probably emphasized it even more, but it really seems to cost VERY serious money, especially if you plan to do anything else than just the short bit to the Karakoram Highway. And even that costs a fair bit. Very few people go overland with their own vehicles to China, and I think money is the single biggest reason (though the bureacracy is probably a close 2nd!)

But note that I haven´t done any of those myself, so this is all based on other travellers reports. You will need to get in touch with travel agencies in China to start arranging it all.
