october 2005 best route UK to Turkey help
 

Help would be great on the best route to take I am considering the default of france germany austria slovenia croatia serbia montanegro bulgaria greece turkey. any input on entry border stuff required for turkey would be great as i have seen both carnet and non carnet messages on the site

I can't propose a better route, but I can put your mind to rest: Turkey has never required a carnet coming from Europe.

The confusion has arisen, cause some people have reported that they were asked for it coming through an Asian border, where they needed one anyway for the country they had just left.

When I crossed from Iran in '89 I didn't get it stamped, so was able to send it home for a refund.

Carnet isue: Turky does not require a carnet, but if you use it entry is a bit cheaper since there system cost a few dollars (or euro,s).

About the route: Think about this: UK, belgium, germany, czech republic, Slowakie, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turky.

It,s the route I used (from Holland) and I enjoyed it very much (prague, budapest, bucarest, folowing the donau, black sea etc.)

Ofcourse there is also france, italy, greece, turky.. but this needs ferry,s.

Hi All,

I have sent an e-mail and recieved the reply today from Turkish AA called Turkey Touring and Automobile Club. They told me that no need for carnet for Turkey and insurance can be obtained at the border only for 10 YTL, which is about £4.

I was also planning to go to Turkey from the UK via FR>B>D>A>Slovenia>Croatia>Macedonia>Greece and Turkey. However, my PhD. thesis wont be finish on time, so, I postponed my trip and changed the route to: UK>Italy>*ferry*>Turkey>Iran>*ferry*>Bahrain on October. I excluded Balkans, because of visa+insurance problems.

davmail, if you dont wanna take ferry I am agree with beddhist. This is the best route.

I may answer any questions regarding Turkey. Do not hesitate to contact me.
