panamerican highway
 

hi everyone,
writing to you from san jose ,costa rica......planning to ride route 1 all the way to the states.....i am told that the roads are pretty straight forward and in pretty good shape.
any comments on this are appreciated. also, anyone that would like to come along would be great......my travel dates are flexible.

the PanAm Hwy sucks
 

While I didn't ride a whole lot of the PanAm, the stretch through Costa Rica was the worst of the lot. No potholes, but very rough from patching former holes.

And if you're going to follow the Pan American, then you'll go out of your way, like into Managua instead of cutting that section out on your way through Nicaragua.

Stay flexible - the PanAm Hwy is for trucks - and its for people want to get through CA as fast as possible. Its like taking the freeway in the US, you don't see much.

since i am doing this by myself and its my first time....i feel the highway will be my best route until i get to mexico......i would like to enter the states in brownsville......and then head east from there.
if i had someone with me , who had better knowledge of different routes, that would be great and other routes would be considered.
any more thoughts or know someone heading that direction?
