Paris to dakar (slow time)
Hi,
My buddy and i have been dickering about a big bike trip, we both haunt this forum as life gets in the way its just been an escape to sit and read. But we've blocked out a couple of weeks in the future ( we have kids so can't drop everything and go unfortunately) and have started the very early planning stage. He's doing shipping the bikes home and I've got to look at Carnet's. The current half thought out plan is to ride from england to the continent then cross from EU into morocco and ride down the coast (ish) through western sahara, mauritania and into senegal finishing at dakar for celebratory drinks before shipping the bikes home and retelling the story of our thrilling heroics. See very half planned. The problem I'm hitting is theres multiple conflicting sources for the carnet situation. Firstly if we need them for the proposed route and secondly how much its costing. I know ADAC are the relevant vendors now but depending on where i look some folks say you get 50% back and others say all. Can anyone offer any advice or help with this? While we are both bikers neither of us has ridden outside the EU so this is a bit of a minefield to a newcomer. |
My understanding is that you will not need a carnet for any countries on your trip other than Senegal, and only then, if your motorcycle is more than five years old.
