Rabat to Capetown - Mali Timbuktu advice
 

Just wondering if anyone has any advice re. Mali and travel from Bamako to Timbuktu and then onto Gao and Niamey in Niger. Road conditions, security (relative) and possible tips. I am half way around my circumnavigation of Africa and also have advice for Somaliland etc if anyone needs help.

Today I'd say NO it's totally off limits & you'd be asking for trouble, even Malian friends won't venture up that way

When you actually get there ... it could have changed, do keep your ear to the ground!
