Roads and routes in Bolivia

Hi,
We are 2 up currently riding in Peru and considering our route through through Bolivia to Argentina. Does anyone have up to date info on the status of the road between
Oruro and Sucre, is it paved?
Also, the road from Potosi to Villazon via Camargo?
We are avoiding any un-paved monster......as on a reasonably tight time line to get to Buenos Aires. Also, as we havn't quite cleared the rainy season we may get more than we bargained for!!!! We were trying to avaon Chilie this time but may have to back track up Bolivia depending on whatever comes our way!
Any advice out there most appreciatesd.
Thanks
Sara

The best way from Oruro to Sucre is via Potosi. It's good seal the whole way. Make sure you fuel up every chance you get. It's high (4000m) and cold, but a beautiful ride.

The road from Potosi south to the border with Argy is shocking dirt. Corrugated and heavily used by freight trucks. They where in the process of building a new road. It's half done. They had fuss between the contractor on government and the last I heard work on it had stopped.

It's tantalisingly smooth and right next to the old road, but blocked off in most places, so you can't use it, but it would be worth being cheeky and riding over the dirt piles they use to stop trucks from driving on it, and just use it anyway, but watch your speed as it starts and ends unexpectedly, usually at an uncompleted bridge!!

Once you're in Argy the roads get much better, closer to Salta it's freeway for the last few hours.

Enjoy

Sorry

Sara,

Sorry I can't help you on that route.:confused1::confused1: I just traveled with my son Peru-Brazil-Bolivia-Peru, but by other routes. But any "place to stay" type questions, etc, I would be glad to help.:thumbup1: I have lived most of my life in South America, worked, traveled, met my wife (her name is also Sara (w/ no 'h')), and raised 4 kids there.

Please don't miss the interior of Peru and Bolivia tho I know your time is tight.

Pleased to meet you and have a FANTASTIC trip,:mchappy:

The Oruru to Potosi to Sucre route is pure bliss and paved and good condition. You will enjoy that immensely. In Sucre be sure to visit Joy Rides cafe and say hello to Gert, the Dutch rider/owner of this venerable Sucre watering hole..
