Route from OH to CO to SD - looking for suggestions

We have 4 or 5 bikes going to Denver 7/28/05. Do to time constraints wives will fly to Denver for us to pick up then we plan to meander toward Yellowstone then toward Sturgis during the following week. Plan is wives will fly home from Rapid City and we head back to Ohio 8/7/05. Any suggestions on any leg appreciated, especially from Denver to Rapid City via Yellowstone.

From Denver a nice ride West on I-70 to Idaho Springs then up to the top of Mt Evans (14,280') a nice day ride.
From there go North to Estes Park (Rockie Mtn Nat'l Park)
From Granby,CO take rt 125 North to I-80,
US 287,26. From Grand Teton Nat'l Park go North on US 191. When you leave Yellowstone take US 212 (bear tooth scenic hwy) to Red Lodge MT.
From Red Lodge to Cody WY, then east to I-90. Take a side trip to Custer battlefield Nat'L Mon. East to Devils Tower Nat'l Mon. There are a lot of rides around Rapid City SD Take a loop through Custer State Park.
You may want to get a Nat'l Parks Pass, they are good for a year.

Kyle, Why would you want to go to the Sturgis Mad House, and leave on the day the Rally starts?

Well, this the concept of this trip just recently came up and I doubt we could find a place to stay. Beside that we will hang around a day after our better halves fly back. Thanks.

Sturgis is an adventure if you want it to be. If you haven't been there by all means check it out. Just realize that 400,000 other people will be passing thru. I think it would be interesting if we had a HU meeting point on a particular day or days. Also don't miss the beartooth pass, try to ride it early before the traffic.

Bill etc,

Feel free to post a "Sturgis" thread under "events" and call a get-together for HU attendees!

Kyle, Think after you ride around Colorado, a great place, then to Yellowstone, and Beartooth Pass you will not need the 400,000 bikers at Stergis. That is a adventure all by its self!

Thanks for all the replies. Norm I agree and this is why we are not staying for the event but rather passing through on our way back.

Bill, can you go into greater detail on beartooth pass? Understanding there must be so many places to see however like most we have to pick and choose. Being from Montana do you have any suggestions on must see places on our trek from Denver to Yellowstone? Plan is to take 2 days to get to Yellowsone, 2 days there, then head toward SD. I also have to check into places to hold up and will be looking for biker friendly places.

Thanks.
