RTW daily expenses
 

Hi all

Can anyone please point out the rough estimate daily expenses for RTW.

It would be the best if it can be break down into:
- SEA
- China
-Korea, Japan
- Others of Asia
- Western Europe
- Eastern Europe
- Africa (i dont know how to segregate them)
- South america
- Nouth america
- New Zealand and australia

I do not mind to live in 'minimum' level of accomodation as long clean. No special food is needed. I am not drinking. But i wish to visit most of the World Heritage places which i think it would be little charges over there.

In Asia i was spending roughly 1000 US dollars a month. This was a budget, but not shoestring. I think Africa could be slightly more expensive. The World Heritage sites and tourist attractions in many cheap countries are not very cheap, unless you are a local. Mainly foreigners visit, so they charge foreign prices.
Ride fast through expensive countries to keep the spending down.

Western Europe
 

Western Europe is very expensive.
I think 70 to 100 euro a day (not including fuel) is what you need.

Australia (all in Aussie $)
Fuel $1.09 - $1.70 (Good melbourne - Outback Oodnadatta)
Food Breaky $5, Lunch $10, Dinner $10 (options of buying, cheaper options)
Sleep - Backpackers approx $30 adverage, note many many places to camp with a swag or tent, (have slept under stars 1km from the city)
Tourist sites - Tricky, I find enough places that are free and or $1/2 coin donation to go to.. can be up to $30 for places like Port Arthur (tassie)

Daily expenses for Japan
 

ok, so I will also add my little comment, just to include the cost of living in Japan:

if you are just gonna camp, fees range from 0 yen to roughly 3.000 (in $: 0 ~ 25). Guesthouses can be found starting with 5.000 Yen - $ 40. Food, if you can live on Japanese noodles (Ramen) they run you from 100 Yen (instant type) to 1.000 Yen (ramen shop). I figure with rougly $15 to 20 per day you are good to go on the food, if you're looking for nothing fancy or something like French cuisine!! Gasoline right now 1 liter (regular) 140 Yen. Highway fees very expensive, so you might want to consider using "regular roads", which are in general great over here. In reference to lodging, go for a homestay-kind of option!! There are people over here willing to help RTW bikers! Just get with me and I will see what I can do for you!!

Wouldn't a decent travel guide book for each area give you enough info to plan a budget?
Are you going to buy gasoline? If so, how much per week?

I dont think i will go for camp method for my accomodation because there will be a problem for toilet and bathing matter. Or any one of you may comment on this matter?

According to you all, each day may need (for 2 persons on 1 bike):
Asia : around $35
Japan: around $80
Western europe: $100
Australia: $75

any other comments on other continents?

Have you researched camping in Europe? What other sources are you using to make decisions and plans other than this site?

I heard a rumor that they might have toilets and shower facilities at many places.

If you are spending a month here and don't mind a bit of a cramped place to sleep, my home is open. The e-mail address is so I can send some photos so you can decide if this is want you want to see, experience.
the campgrounds in Europe, especially UK are great beyond belief. Example, Just out of London is Lee's Valley Campsite where I have always stayed. 7 euros a night. The bus comes to the campground, takes you to the subway and you're on your own. The campground has laundry, t.v. room showers, clean, quiet, nice. Same in Canterbury but within walking distance of the Cathedral. If you have an interest, I can give the directions for campgrounds for several other areas. Get the Brit heritage pass though. saves bunches. UK is wonderful from bottom to top. I have spent more than two years wandering there and haven't even started. Well actually have stopped because the fees for seeing the sites have risen so high that only Bill Gates can visit.

India:

Hotel stay - smaller towns - 3star(with AC), around $20. Clean accomodation without frills - $10 or less
Larger towns, cities , no frills - about $20.

Fuel @ 1 - 1.2$/litre

Food - You can get by on as little as $5 a day. $10 a day is more than enough, even for the cities. You can, of course spend much much more. Best food on the road - "Dhabas"(basically truck stops) super and super cheap FRESH food cooked in front of you. No more than $2 a meal.

Carry your own bottled water everywhere.
