Russia - St Petersburg to Murmansk
I'm planning to ride up through northwest Russia in July. Will come from UK in through Estonia (Narva), then St Petersburg - Petrozavodsk - Kemi- Murmansk and back over to Kirkenes in Finland/Lapland.
Has anyone done the run up from Petrozavodsk to Murmansk in the last year or two? I have friends in Petrozavodsk and will stop there for a couple of days. Have allowed a couple of days from there to Murmansk. Any recent information on road conditions, advice on things to see/avoid, or anything else I should know? Thanks! |
Hello
I'm planning to cross at Narva this year on a round Baltic Trip from Scotland. I was just reading on Trip Advisor that the Narva border can take 24 hours due to them only being able to process 6 cars an hour! How did it go for you? Was it easier on a motorbike? Thanks Rich |
Mr.Wilson,
done it last year, road condition very good, I've manage to make Murmansk-Petrozvodsk in 1 day. Plan was stay in Kemi and attend Solovki (nice nature and historical place: Gulag and old monastery)- very recommended, but last spring local Karelia KGB set rule that foreign passport holders not allowed to stay in hotels- top level of stupidity, but only near Petrozavodsk Was first hotel, who allowed me rent room. Regarding boarder crossing in Narva: I guess it's on of fastest boarders, 6 cars per hour can be only for cargo tracks. |
