San Diego to Panama - shortest time
I thinking of trying to make the Colombia Libra event in in October. How long would it take to get from San Diego to Panama if one was just riding? Is 3 weeks enough time? It's not the way I'd want to travel through Central America but if I want to get to Colombia by the end of October it's what I'd need to do.

San diego panama
You can do it in way less than 3 weeks, actually you can do it in less than two.But long hours on the saddle will be necessary, don't think you will be cruising at 80M/H ,the road is easy and fairly good, try to leave early morning and avoid to ride at night ( too many object or animals on the road)
What will be your ride. |
I'll be riding an 1150GS and would be leaving around the 1st of October. I need to leave enough time to transport the bike from Panama to Colombia too.

with a GS its no problem, do not take the baja route as its way slower ,instead take the HWY direction Mexico city and you should be able to do good time , if commited to long riding day you can make it in a 7 to 10 days, be carefull with speed bump or you will be flying (done it few time). The cops are pretty OK, make copies of you papers ( save you time at border).
Good ride . |
Keep in mind that October can be very rainy in Costa Rica and Panama and allow some extra time. I live in Panama, but will be riding back from
Buenos Aires starting in end of July. If I'm back in Panama by the time you get here we can get together, so let me know. |
Thanks Steve. I'll send you a PM when I get in the area :thumbup1:
